EDWARDSVILLE — The County Board earlier this month awarded a new contract for janitorial services at some county buildings after the present service provider, Advanced Outsource Solutions, received multiple complaints in recent months.

At its Oct. 19 meeting, the Madison County Board voted to approve a contract with CR Systems in lieu of exercising an option to extend the current one-year contract with Alton-based Advanced Outsource Solutions, a subsidiary of Challenge Unlimited. The current contract pays $232,602; CR Systems submitted the low bid of $230,000 this time around, which includes providing janitorial services to the county’s administration building, courthouse and the Madison County Health Department building in Wood River, among others.

The county’s Buildings and Facilities Management Committee voted in September to not renew the contract with Advanced Outsource Solutions. On Tuesday, Madison County Administrator Joe Parente said multiple customer services issues were reported since the company began cleaning county buildings last year.

“Any time you change janitorial contracts, there’s a period of time, a transition period, and the staff attempted to work with the management during this transition period. They never were able to get things quite right,” Parente said. “It was basically customer service-type issues — things not being cleaned, lights being left on, just a wide variety.”

Donald Trump has promised that as president he will honour the pledge stitched into his white and red baseball caps: Make America Great Again.

The former television entertainer’s campaign has been a roller coaster of triumphs and pitfalls, but his love for hyperbole has never wavered.

With him in the White House, Mr Trump has said, his supporters are going to "win so big"  they will soon be "sick of winning".

Liang Zhao Zhang’s job is to clean up BART stations in downtown San Francisco and clean up he does: He swept in $162,000 in overtime pay last year, records show.

Call Zhang the super janitor, an extraordinarily high earner in a field where the beloved school custodian rarely brings home more than $50,000 a year.

Zhang grossed $235,000 in 2015, four times more than his base pay as a janitor. Benefits brought his total cost of employment at the rail agency to more than $270,000. And records show this isn’t the first time he raked in six-figure compensation at BART. Zhang received a combined $682,000 in pay and benefits over the last three years.

“Where do I sign up?” joked Lionel Hsu, a BART rider on Tuesday.

Not since we first watched Fight Club have we been as interested in soap as we are now. That’s in part thanks to research being carried out at the University of Minnesota — where scientists have created a new soap molecule that promises to be far more environmentally friendly than existing products made by the giant cleaning products industry.

    new soap molecule invented bar

“Our research team has invented a new soap molecule that is made from renewable resources and works in a broad range of conditions,” Paul Dauenhauer, associate professor of chemical engineering and materials science, told Digital Trends.

These “renewable resources” include natural products such as soybeans, coconut, and corn, compared with existing soaps that are made from fossil fuels. Such soaps are regularly mixed with harmful chemicals in order to produce shampoos, hand soaps, and detergents.

A new cleaning service launched last week is called "My Model Maid," and it's exactly what it sounds like.

The company is a customized housecleaning service, and all of the "maids" are models, and willing to wear virtually whatever you'd like.

"You select the maid, her attire (French maid, schoolgirl, cheerleader, Wonder Woman or special requests ) and a time that’s convenient for you," the website advertises.

It took six years, a 12-day hunger strike, and an unrelenting series of downtown protests, but retail janitors in the Twin Cities have finally formed a union.

    itemprop

The 600 janitors who clean the Twin Cities’ shiniest department stores hail from dozens of countries. Many worked in isolation as employees of disconnected cleaning contractors who often took advantage of their immigration status to cut corners on wage laws.

A 110-year-old cleaning equipment company has partnered with Carnegie Robotics to bring more intelligence to cleaning machines. Nilfisk, which is based in Denmark, announced a technology and innovation roadmap that includes robotic cleaners, but that's not all.

Anton Soerensen, Senior Vice President of R&D at Nilfisk, tells ZDNet, "The Horizon program is kind of a landing page for new innovation within autonomous cleaning, connected products, and intelligent cleaning methodologies. It's not only about autonomous cleaning, it's about the vision to change cleaning as we know it today."

SPRINGDALE -- Work release inmates will be replaced with janitors to work in the City Administration Building, a move prompted by alleged misbehavior.

"We're going to hire employees to take over that role of maintenance and janitorial services," Mayor Doug Sprouse said after Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The City Council voted approved spending $26,820 to hire janitors to work in the building at 201 Spring St., for the rest of the year. Arkansas Department of Corrections inmates housed at Northwest Arkansas Work Release Center in Springdale had been doing the work for more than 15 years, Melissa Reeves, public relations director for the city, said last week.

"We're looking to redistribute them to work somewhere else, possibly in another building," Reeves said. "It's part of an overall strategy to increase security in the administration building."
