There may be no limit to what we are exposed to in the janitorial world, but we can limit what we come in contact with in an unhealthy way. In the case of blood borne pathogens which cause illness, disease or even death, we can take every precaution possible. We are to treat each substance, each situation as if it can harm us, and so, approaching the clean-up with caution and wisdom is a must.

We are to use protective gear including gloves, masks and gowns. We are to seek a safe way of disposal, labeling the debris, sealing it, and making sure no one else has exposure to the clean-up.

We are to clean up our own area including self. Disinfecting all equipment used, washing hands immediately after removing gloves, removing gown and disposing properly can all help in reducing or eliminating the spread of bloodborne pathogens.

Together we can make this job and world a safer place. With people trusting that we are doing our jobs in a safe manner, it is so important that we approach each day with focused attention on staying safe .... and clean.

When running a Janitorial service, customer service is an integral part. Reason being that it establishes great communication between your clients and your business. Without customer service, communication can break down and lead to bad relationships with clients. Therefore, creating a bad reputation for your business.

A few things to remember when promoting great customer service include being heard, understood, and cared for. Even if there is nothing that the company can do for the client, it's important for the client to know that effort was applied in trying to find a solution for them. One should always beware what the customer wants, and genuinely listen to the needs of the client. Lastly, don't forget to follow up.

IJCSA members always provide great customer service by putting clients first and prioritize winning customer service.

Please inquire about our cleaning service at www.cleanedd.com based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We already have been doing all our cleaning green but this does open a new door of credibility in our marketing and how the clients will perceive our company.  Wear we have been doing commercial flooring for years we have also recently began offering a full green commercial janitorial service.  It has been limited because of the lack of staff available now. But as we begin to boost our staff, this will open a new pathway giving us a credibility I see very few of the companies in the area offering.

I am a big believer in education of the clients and sometimes my passion in this even costs me clients.  Those clients just were not a good fit for our company.  As we begin to promote our commercial part of the business, I want to find new ways to give education again not only to our staff but offering it to the companies as well.  There are a lot of small things we can offer which would make a company green.  A greener version of recycling and bathroom or kitchen products being used which we can supply for the client.  These are minor items which done on a large scale make a huge difference.

Another part of building a stronger green program is to improve our HCS training.  Getting our staff more familiar with SDS sheets and doing better with our training and using safety procedures around all the chemicals we have.  Also, because so many of our staff rarely get to the office we need to have SDS packages with each truck or equipment pack that is in the field.

Janitors are not only important, but essential, to our daily lives for many reasons.

Despite many risks, janitors play a huge role in protecting the health of building occupants. They prevent the spread of illness and infection and protect the indoor environment.  They are trained on proper cleaning and disinfection of high traffic facilities.

Janitors also keep restrooms properly stocked.  It is a horrible inconvenience when necessary items are not restocked on a daily basis.  These trained employees, more often than not, know to keep enough stock on site to meet the demands of the people using the facilities.

Additionally, janitors inspect the safety and functionality of all equipment

that they clean.  If there are any leaks found or dysfunction in sinks, toilets, or urinals, they report it to the appropriate bosses and/or repair companies for minimum downtime and inconvenience.

There are many consideration to take into account when hiring a cleaning person or company. There is location, price, and references. However, one of the most important, and overlooked factors, is certification. Selecting an IJCSA certified cleaning person or company is a major step in the right direction.

There is the old adage that any person can clean a house. At the IJCSA, and evidence based practice, this is not true. There are many different methods, cleaners, disinfectants, and various other considerations. A certified cleaner can tailor a plan for you and your home. Proper cleaning is a top priority.

Whether you are focused on cleanliness, pet odors, or elimination of infectious organisms; there is a specific course of action that should be taken. For example, if you have dogs in the home, and someone recently had a Covid infection, there are precautions that need to be taken. The home must be properly disinfected. The proper disinfectant must be selected that will not harm you or your pet. This is one of many reasons certifications are important.

Selecting a certified cleaning person or company also leaves you with assurances. You can be assured the cleaning will be done with the highest standards in mind. Everytime, you will get the same high quality service. If you are spending money you might as well ensure you receive the highest quality products and services.

There are many reasons for choosing a certified residential cleaner. Be assured you will have the highest quality, most professional, and safest service. When you select your residential cleaning person or company, select an IJCSA certified Residential Cleaning Service provider. Your peace of mind will thank you.

As a cleaner, following the correct procedures and protocols is very essential in regard to Bloodborne Pathogens because you are coming into direct contact with human blood, vomit and saliva.  We must be aware of diseases such as HIV, HBV etc. If we are not careful, we could expose ourselves through these pathogens through cuts and scrapes and other bodily fluids. It is also important that employers educate their employees and staff the importance in staying safe because you might not be aware who is exposed to bloodborne pathogen. It is hard to determine just by looking at someone or because they don’t look and feel sick. All employees and staff should always prepare for these things in advance by having some type of training in place. By having the proper training, you will know how to handle different types of situations that may happen that could save not only someone else’s life but yours as well.

When dealing with Bloodborne Pathogen, we must always wear protective gear no matter if you work in a healthcare facility, commercial and residential cleaning businesses and while working at any contaminated areas. We must use universal precautions by wearing rubber gloves, safety goggles, etc that help prevent the spread of Hepatitis B, HIV and HBV. Any containers with needled should be placed in a colored coded red or orange labeled trash bags.  When possible, always handle laundry cautiously. Always decontaminate surfaces and use Betco disinfectants when cleaning blood or other fluids.

Even with COVID-19 it is also important to take our health and the health in others seriously especially during the pandemic. If you are in the cleaning industry, we must do our due diligence in staying safe by washing our hands after each clean rather we are in our homes or cleaning other homes. This should be a daily practice. We should also follow OSHA guidelines. By not following the guidelines we could face serious fines.  To conclude, if taking these precautions seriously you will have peace of mind knowing that you, your staff and others you come in contact with are safe.

Bloodborne Pathogens are pathogenic microorganisms that can eventually cause disease. They are found in human blood and other bodily fluids. They are disease causing. So you may not get symptoms immediately.

To prevent contracting a Bloodborne Pathogens, PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) should always be used. PPE includes any or all of the following:

Gloves, mask, eye protection, face shield etc..

It is extremely important to be aware and use safety guidelines. As not to get or spread infectious diseases or anything else. Your health and safety and the health and safety of others should always be top priority.
