THEY ARE BAD green Cleaning products help in that . They remove dust, allergens, and germs from our indoor environment. Have you ever considered the environmental and health impacts of the regular cleaning chemicals?

janitors experience workplace injury from chemical exposure. That is just the professional custodial staff. All building occupants come into contact with cleaning products in one way or another. There are light cleaning tasks such as wiping desks and counters. Plus, anyone in the building can breathe in the volatile compounds from cleaning products.

Certain chemicals may irritate skin, eyes, or throat. Some commercial-grade products may be hazardous in concentrated forms. Cleaning products enter the environment during the course of regular use by getting rinsed down the drain or evaporating into volatile compounds. Residue can linger on surfaces and cleaning tools.

BMI is an affordable commercial cleaning service in Ottawa that uses green cleaning methods to keep our planet safe. From offices to warehouses, we handle all types of workspaces.

BMI’s approach to cleaning has been designed to use safer, less toxic products while achieving a cleaner and healthier environment. Our approach enables us to create a win-win relationship with our clients. If we help our clients to maintain or increase their LEED Certification Level, we also earns a reputation as the company moving society into a ”greener” future which positions us as leaders in the green cleaning business in the National Capital Region.

The BMI green cleaning process ensures the success of your program.

Basic principles of One Step to Go Green Program include:

    • Use green cleaning processes such as spraying cleaning products directly onto cloths, using microfiber mops, and using cold water.
    • Clean daily on-site services, occasional carpet washing, and floors waxing.
    • Use chemical management systems for accurate product dilution in order to improve indoor quality
    • Ensure proper vacuuming, extraction, rinsing, drying and emptying vacuum bags at the end of shifts.
    • Establish preventative and corrective measures to improve cleaning operations
    • Pay particular attention to door handles, bright work and other areas where people come in contact with the facility or its fixtures.
    • Apply disinfectant ensuring that this one has positive dwell time to remove dirt/germens using fewer products.
    • Use less hazardous chemicals and storage them by using a nomenclature based on color-coded to promote safety and avoid cross-contamination.

Use of Environmental Products and Materials

BMI environmental cleaning practices avoid any chemicals that are skin irritants, toxic or harmful to the environment. BMI’s staff has been educated about LEED standards, and the company supervisors are familiarized with the LEED process, especially when it comes to products and materials. Most products we use maintain a reduced environmental impact, including those with Green Seal® or EcoLogo® certification. We also use “Green” paper products to comply with EPA’s Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines and Green Seal’s Standards for Tissue (GS-1) and Towels (GS-9).

    Use of Sustainable Janitorial Equipment

Our company maintains a plan for the use of powered janitorial equipment that maximizes the effective reduction of building contaminants with minimum environmental impact. Our cleaning equipment carries the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) Green Label® or is approved by the US Green Building Council. We keep our equipment well maintained for efficiency and decreased impact on occupant health.

At BMI, all new powered cleaning equipment purchased and used at the facility complies with The CRI Seal of Approval (This signifies a superior cleaning vacuum that has passed stringent testing for soil removal, dust containment and carpet appearance retention).

It’s true. Green cleaning isn’t just some sort of moral high ground for businesses to stand on – although it certainly carries a positive moral connotation. It’s more than another socially-responsible box to check off or a badge to point to – although it’s certainly a reputation booster.

It actually benefits the bottom line of businesses in tangible ways. And, if you’re considering green cleaning services for your business, that’s worth taking into account.

With that in mind, here are three ways that green cleaning services can benefit your business.

Green Cleaning Services Can Increase Your Business’ ROI

Green cleaning services can actually benefit the ROI your business receives from cleaning services – and that factors into bottom line profit at the end of the day. We’ve touched on this before, to some extent, to dispel the myth that green cleaning services are more expensive than traditional cleaning services (they’re not). But they’re more than simply comparatively priced; green cleaning services, comprehensively instituted, provide significant cost savings.

First, as mentioned, they’re more efficient – both in terms of the frequency of cleaning, and in terms of the amount of chemicals used. That efficiency translates into cost savings; cleaning companies are able to reduce the costs of chemical purchases and time spent on cleaning activities, which translates directly to reduce the costs to your businesses.

Additionally, green cleaning services reduce the injuries to custodial staff and workers – there are fewer harsh chemicals to deal with, and the health of indoor environments is improved. The result of fewer injuries, of course, is fewer compensation claims – which again translates directly to reduced costs for your business.

Finally, green cleaning services attract potential clients and tenants. If given the chance between frequenting a facility that uses green cleaning, or a facility that doesn’t, tenants and clients almost aways choose green. That offers opportunities for your business.

Green cleaning is better for the environment. Green Chemicals get the building clean with less indoor air pollution. They are also less harmful to custodial workers and building occupants. Buying concentrated cleaners lowers the impact of packaging and shipping.

Green products often use reusable, reduced, or recyclable packaging. Using less hazardous products may reduce the costs of proper disposal for leftover product.

. That is just the professional custodial staff. All building occupants come into contact with cleaning products in one way or another. There are light cleaning tasks such as wiping desks and counters. Plus, anyone in the building can breathe in the volatile compounds from cleaning products.

At levels of typical use, the risk of adverse health impacts from chemical cleaning products is low. Still, reducing potential hazards is an integral part of chemical management safety. Certain chemicals may irritate skin, eyes, or throat. Some commercial-grade products may be hazardous in concentrated forms.

Cleaning products enter the environment during  their regular use by getting rinsed down the drain or evaporating into volatile compounds. Residue can linger on surfaces and cleaning tools.

Bloodborne pathogens are viruses or bacteria present in human blood and body fluids which can infect and cause disease in humans. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS, and the Hepatitis B virus (HBV) are the two most contagious bloodborne pathogens.

There are several ways that OSHA and your company has planned to handle the cleanup of infectious materials to minimize exposure for everyone's health. Properly wearing and disposing of PPE is crucial in keeping everyone safe. Broken skin, membranes in mouth, eyes, and nose are entry ways for the pathogens to enter into your system in which PPE will protect you from. Do not eat, drink, or apply cosmetics in areas that are likely infected with bloodborne pathogens.

Having the proper training and information on how to handle infectious material is crucial for cleaning companies to know so that their health and others are not compromised. Showing clients that you have knowledge and willing to train in additional steps of handling bloodborne pathogens and any infectious material shows that you care about them and others.

It is important to have standard protocols in place for employees who may encounter mold while cleaning a home of facility. Property training is critical so that staff can easily identify signs of mold so that they can properly protect themselves and the building owner.

A standard mold cleaning program will commence upon the observation or potential presence of mold, and a supervisor will be called to come assess the situation. Depending on the size, severity, and scope of the potential mold problem, additional expertise may be called upon from a third party to assist with the remediation effort.

At a very minimum, the discovery of the potential mold with trigger strict adherence to ultimate safety guidelines to limit exposure to any persons present, as well as contain the mold from possible spread, until further assessments and recommendations can be made to the building or home owner.

My goal is to implement green cleaning to one of my cleaning services to be able to serve my clients with different types of cleaning methods. Green cleaning will be beneficial to implement due to the fact that some of my clients have children or health issues to where some chemicals can be too strong and environmentally friendly. Some benefits of green cleaning are using safer products, purer environment, better quality, less expensive and to gain more knowledge on healthier ingredients. Green cleaning products do not contain hazardous chemicals and are more likely to reduce health risk.

Green cleaning products are proven to be safer to use in households and commercial areas. It is also proven to have a better impact on the environment.
