    How we picked

Since 2013, we’ve tracked 121 models (though many are now discontinued). Then, we prioritized some baseline specs:

    • A brush roll. Robot vacuums don’t have much suction, so they need a brush roll to boost their cleaning performance. Most models have one and sometimes two rolls, but the cheapest bots are suction-only.
    • An edge-cleaning brush. Usually, this is a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the path of a robot vacuum’s intake.
    • Functional customer support in the US. Most brands are good or even great in this regard, but a few low-cost brands don’t even have an English-language website or American phone number to call. We skipped them.

The operator of a janitorial service that cleaned the Alamodome has been convicted in an invoice scam that led to more than $500,000 in overcharges.

Federal investigators say 54-year-old Geoffrey Comstock was convicted Wednesday in San Antonio of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and six counts of wire fraud.

The case involves the Alamodome, a multipurpose domed sports and special events facility operated by the city of San Antonio.

Authorities say Comstock owns the Frio Nevado Corp. and had an Alamodome janitorial contract from 2002 to 2016. Investigators say bogus invoices, submitted since mid-2014, were paid by the city.

Comstock faces up to 20 years in federal prison on each count.

SINGAPORE — To minimise the stench in toilets, floor tiles with coatings that can neutralise odours are being tested in the toilets at City Square Mall. Over at Changi General Hospital, senior workers could also put on exoskeletons – powered brace-like wearables – to reduce the strain of cleaning and waste management operations.

These are part of a series of trials to be conducted by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and seven partners over the next few years to find better technologies and solutions for the environmental services industry. Letters of Intent were signed with the seven partners under the Innovating and Curating Better Automation and Technologies for Environmental Services (Incubate) initiative during the launch of the Environmental Services Industry Transformation Map on Monday (Dec 11).

This is the horrifying moment a window cleaner was left hanging in mid-air after falling from a crane.

Luckily the man, who has not been identified, was wearing a safety harness which stopped him plummeting 25ft to the ground.

It is believed the worker slipped trying to get back onto the cherry picker after cleaning the roof of a shopping centre in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Future Market Insights delivers key insights on the global industrial and institutional cleaning chemicals market in its latest report titled 'Industrial and Institutional Cleaning Chemicals Market: Global Industry Analysis and Opportunity Assessment, 2016-2026'. Global sales revenue of industrial and institutional cleaning chemicals is projected to be valued at US$ 40.13 Bn by 2016, witnessing a Y-o-Y growth of 3.9% over 2015.

Why? For starters, most working-class women don’t hire publicists or lawyers, and they aren’t able to cultivate friends in high places. (They are very rarely applauded for that word of the year, “bravery”, in public forums.) Most of these women never go public at all. After all, if you’re earning $8 to $10 an hour, you cannot afford to go without a paycheck for the weeks it would take to find a new job. Any expression of dissatisfaction with a hostile workplace can lead to a legal firing on the grounds of, for example, having a bad attitude.

‘This is a powerful moment for sharing our stories, but it can sometimes feel like we are only reproducing class divisions’.

Blue-collar and retail workers may well be happy to see the issue of sexual harassment getting attention, yet they might also be irritated at celebs receiving all the attention and respond accordingly. Talk to a hairdresser, a waitress or a domestic worker, and you’re likely to encounter a deep vein of resentment.

By now you’ve heard that your trusty kitchen sponge is actually the germiest item in your kitchen. But that sponge isn’t the only hidden cesspool for bacteria. These are the four grossest spots in your home, that you definitely missed while cleaning.

    1. Kitchen handles, doors, and knobs. You clean the kitchen floor, but probably neglect the surfaces you touch most often. They could have germs from raw meat, unwashed produce, and anything else you’ve touched. Don’t neglect your knobs when cleaning!

    2. Your pillow. You wash your sheets and pillowcases once a week. But what about your actual pillow? It’s an excellent breeding ground for allergy-irritating fungi. Plus, your skin, sweat, and (admit it) drool, are very attractive to dust mites. Use an anti-allergen cover on your pillow as protection.
