I have worked for several cleaning companies over the years. I had to use a lot of chemicals which are really harmful to the human body. Although the cleaning result is okay, it is not eco-friendly and it is harmful to the earth, kids, pets, and clients.

Now, we can use green cleaning products and it allows us to a run a healthy green cleaning business. As I use green cleaning products, I can proudly explain to customers about what kind of healthy results they will receive. I explain they can have the same cleaning results without any harmful side effects.

Green cleaning is new world cleaning. State of the art cleaning! Where we do not have to hide something from our clients and we can be proud to clean an office or home using natural healthy green cleaning techniques.

Knowing about the risks of bloodborne pathogens is critical in the cleaning industry. Bloodborne pathogens can be easily spread if protective procedures are not followed properly.

Blood, vomit, saliva and other bodily fluids may be infected with bloodborne pathogens that can cause HIV and Hepatitis B and it is for this reason that specific guidelines must be followed in cleaning and removal. Splashing with a mop can spread the pathogens about the area and enter the mucus membrane through the nose, mouth, eyes or skin.

Needle bins, trash receptacles and hazardous waste must be handled with care in order to prevent injury and exposure as well. International guidelines, if followed, may prevent or reduce infectious waste exposure. Wearing disposable gloves and eye protection play a strong role in prevention.

Peckham is dedicated in providing green cleaning programs as part of our custodial program.  We are also working with many different organizations and agencies such as State and Federal agencies who are now requiring the use of Green Cleaning Programs and the use of Bio-preferred products.  They also require developing reports on practices relating to sustainability. Peckham always uses the Key Sustainable Products requested and required in Sections described in many of the of the Performance Work Statement (“PWS”).in our government contracts.

Additionally, and as a part of meeting these requirements in PWS, Peckham uses Green Seal Eco logo and EPA safe choice products.  Peckham’s Green Program also reviews recycled content and post-consumer recycled content when purchasing waste liners, paper towels and paper products.

Peckham also looks at ways to decreases the amount of items going into landfills by using microfiber products that are reusable in addition to recycling cardboard and paper whenever possible.  The health benefits of green cleaning are helping sustain and protect the future for all of us. http://www.ijcsa.org/Green-Cleaning-Services. I have previously worked at a clinic doing janitorial work. Working there I realized that they don't use certain cleaning products that I am use to using on my previous jobs. The Health Department went green, that meant no use of bleach, almonia or other harmful and hazardous cleaning supplies.

As being introduced to the go green movement I learned that certain chemicals that patients encounter can trigger their sickness. Green products to my knowledge are odorless and made with natural products. The product I was familiar with was simple green, the product was great, real light odor and it cleansed well.

It is important for cleaning employees and staff to know about bloodborne pathogens because anyone exposed to them are at risk for serious or life-threatening illnesses. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms present in blood that can cause disease in humans. The pathogens include hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the virus that causes AIDS.

An employer is required by law to provide employees with bloodborne pathogens training.  This will ensure that the employee understands how to use safe practices when handling potentially hazardous materials such as blood, vomit, and bodily fluids.  It protects workers who can reasonably be anticipated to come into contact with them as a result of doing their job duties.

Once the employee is trained on bloodborne pathogens, they will understand the employers responsibility to provide them with personal protective equipment, hepatitis vaccinations and post exposure treatment free of charge to them.  They will also understand the steps to take to report a potential exposure to the employer.

At home, especially after having children, I realized the importance of green cleaning. Considering the effect it would have on them if they got ahold of it, touching it or even just breathing in dangerous cleaning chemicals. The damages chemicals cause didn't seem beneficial enough to keep around, when there's so many alternatives that do not have a negative effect on health.

We plan to offer full green cleaning services for those interested. Instead of using harsh chemicals, we'll polish with an olive oil blend. Switch out stain removers for a peroxide mix. We'll explain to our customers the importance of green cleaning and help them understand the difference it has in their health and for our planet. When you think about green cleaning in detail over cleaning with harsh chemicals it just simply makes more sense.

I plan to implement green cleaning services into my current business in order to provide customers with a more beneficial work/living environment.

It is clear that eco-friendly solutions are now a better product for customers who appear to be more health conscious of the environment in which they work and/or reside.

Learning about the different chemicals involved in cleaning products will better allow me to be more knowledgeable in front of my client. It will also allow me to provide the client with better solutions to achieving their cleaning goals.

It's no secret that conventional cleaning products such as Mr.Clean, Lysol, and Formula 409 multi-purpose cleaners, among others, pack a chemical punch.

Products like these contain ammonia, bleach, chlorine, and other toxics known to wreck havoc on human health and the environment as they release high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) known to pollute the airways in your home or commercial facility.

But is there a safer alternative to these products? Can we still get the job done without compromising so much? Sure we can!

Green cleaners clean just as good-if not better-and you can make them yourself! Yes, you heard right! Mixing lemon and vinegar, for example, make for a great multi-purpose cleaner that can easily clean a sticky mess, leaving a fresh odor behind.

Another option is to use plant-based cleaners from eco-friendly brands like Method, Mrs. Meyer's, and Better Life.

Either way, natural is the way to go! Help yourself by finding a green cleaning service provider in IJCSA's Green Cleaning Directory:
