The importance of cleaning staff knowing about B.B.Ps.

It is very important for everyone to know about bloodborne pathogens and the fact that contracting them could lead to serious illness and maybe even death. It is not only the worker or the janitor who should have this knowledge but everyone else too. Like the wife of the janitor. so that she has the knowledge to catch a potential contraction of a bloodborne pathogen. Nobody cares more about the service worker then his or hers family.

It is even more important for the cleaning staff or janitor to know that he or she should about BBPs. They are not only responsible for themselves but to all the people they come into contact with. Especially if they have the responsibility and duties of cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing the restrooms at work. They have the responsibility to make sure that the restroom is a safe place for the consumer to use.

When dealing with blood, vomit, or trash there is the possibility to catch a BBP. It can been on a piece of toilet paper that someone used to sneeze on that was left in the trash. It is also important that the janitor use the right protective gear so as to not transfer any possible contaminants to his or her fellow employees. Handling the duties of a janitor should be done slowly and carefully.

In conclusion it should be a practice for the cleaning staff or janitor to work slowly. Making sure to be careful and not be careless and sloppy.

Bloodborne pathogens are disease-causing microorganisms that can be transmitted through blood or bodily fluids. It is important to treat all bloodborne pathogens carefully because they can be potentially harmful.

Proper cleaning methods and prevention should always be used to protect yourself and others. Cleaners should have a very good training to avoid the risk of bloodborne pathogens exposure, this is why workers who are exposed to blood and any body fluids must take all the universal precautions and follow the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standard, created in 1991, which is composed of a written plan, entitled the exposure control plan, training requirements and record keeping guidelines .

This is the best way to eliminate hazards that can affect employees and people in the workplace, you simply can't be careful when it comes to dealing with blood or other infectious materials, proper procedures will always offer the protection needed to keep the workplace safe.

As a certified surgical technologist, bloodborne pathogen exposure was a prevalent concern in my everyday life.  Not just during the case, but also during room turnover between cases.  After I moved out of the operating room and into surgical technology education, teaching the how's and why's to students became even more important. In teaching them how to protect themselves, they are protecting all of their surgical team mates and ancillary department team mates.

Now that I have branched out in my career and am directly responsible for employee training, bloodborne training is crucial for employee safety.  Training protocols, employee checkoff's, continuing education programs, and providing PPE that will keep employees safe are a critical component within the workplace and client environment. Short cuts are not an option when it comes to employee safety.

Personal Protective Equipment PPE) is only effective if the employee is properly trained on how to apply it correctly and if they understand why they have to be donned the way they are.  Another component is properly removing PPE.  If the employee doesn't properly remove and dispose of the contaminated PPE, they have exposed themselves and possibly their families to bloodborne pathogens.

The chances of exposure can be greatly decreased by developing training programs and reinforcing that training on a semi-annual basis.

If you take timely action and have proper knowledge about bloodborne pathogens, it can help to protect yourself from bloodborne pathogens and reduce the risk significantly

Follow standard precautions to help prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens and other diseases whenever there is a risk of exposure to blood or other body fluids. These precautions require that all blood and other body fluids be treated as if they are infectious

If you are stuck by a needle or other sharp or get blood or other potentially infectious materials in your eyes, nose, mouth, or on broken skin, immediately flood the exposed area with water and clean any wound with soap and water or a skin disinfectant if available. Report this immediately to your employer and seek immediate medical attention.

Every employer as well as employee want to work in an environment that is safe for all and promotes further learning for better working conditions. It can’t be stressed enough, that a system that is in place should be adhered to for overall safety. OSHA has implemented a system that prepares anyone who will be working in bloodborne pathogen facilities with varies ways to protect themselves from the spread of these pathogenic microorganisms. When an employee is trained properly in bloodborne pathogens it helps to mitigate problems that could arise in the future. Employing better ways of dealing with potential bloodborne pathogens with employees will help to increase productivity on the job due to lack of absenteeism, when exposure occurs. The importance of staff being well trained in bloodborne pathogens will help to ensure that employees can be cared for properly in the workplace when coming into contact with these bloodborne pathogens by using their own exposure control plan.

Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens will also help employees as well as staff to be able to recognize people who may have the symptoms of hepatitis B virus, Covid, and HIV, so that they may be more in tuned with their surroundings and the people in which they are dealing with. Equally important, is being proficient in administering proper clean up of bodily fluids and spills that occur on floors, surfaces, and linen that needs to be removed from bedding of individuals that have blood borne pathogens.

The universal system that has been adopted by OSHA also helps those who have not been fully acclimated to the ways of dealing with bloodborne pathogens to be able to know what to do when certain color receptacles and labels are present.  Overall, having well trained employees and staff in bloodborne pathogens allows for our clients to rest more easily with the assurance that OSHA trained cleaners are on the job.

It is always important to implement the same cleaning process no matter what kind of place you are cleaning. It should not matter if the location is residential or commercial. Every place should always be cleaned properly

In every location, people will always be exposed to germs and viruses. When you are cleaning, it is important to go room by room and pay special attention to detail when cleaning all surfaces. However, residential and healthcare facilities do differ.

Healthcare facilities are not simply just doctors offices. Hospitals or surgical centers are included. Hospitals and surgical centers have a special importance. When people have surgeries they are more exposed to infections with the incisions that are done.

The exposure of Bloodborne Pathogens is of high importance. In any scenario, these exposures can be of grave danger to any person. These pathogens can either cause a temporary illness or can be long term and terminal.

First of all taking the Bloodborne Pathogen issue seriously is of outmost importance. We need to train ourselves and our employees on all the dangers of dealing with this type of issue in any work place. When you are cleaning any area especially bathrooms, it is a must that you are trained and have the knowledge of dealing with any Bloodborne Pathogen as to keep yourself and others safe.

Any one coming in contact with a Bloodborne Pathogen has the capability of becoming infected to a degree of serious illness and even death. So I can’t express the importance enough of letting your employees know what to do when coming into contact with any bodily fluids. We tend not to think that anything will happen if we use bleach while cleaning any area, but it is a much more complex issue than that.

Also must have a clear and swift plan of action for all your employees for any potential exposure to these pathogens. There has to be a protocol for such circumstances that must be known and followed by all up and down the chain of employee-employer relationships. Make sure that all MSDS’s are readily available at all facilities and proper training is done with all employees.
