Green cleaning is more than just a trend. Green cleaning, or the process of using environmentally-friendly cleaning practices, is a safer alternative to traditional cleaning methods as it is designed to preserve our health and the environment.

How so? By avoiding products containing toxic chemicals like ammonia, bleach, and chlorine, all of which release high levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds), green cleaning helps improve indoor air quality and reduce the likelihood of inhalation toxicity and skin absorption.

Using green cleaning ingredients is the way to go when cleaning for consumers.  It is much safer and it is rarely known if someone has a medical condition that may be exacerbated by using harsh toxic chemicals.  Most people don’t prefer a strong-smelling chemical whether it is used in residential cleaning or commercial cleaning.  Using green solutions makes me more environmentally responsible.  Using green earth friendly ingredients saves money for business owners as well as their customers.

Finding a green cleaning service is the best option for customers and business owners alike.  The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has a list of green cleaning ingredients that they approve of.  The EPA has a safer choice label to identify products certified by them as environmentally safe.  There are legal requirements for products that can be used at schools and child care centers.  I wouldn’t want my child exposed to a toxic chemical that may cause them serious harm.

There are ways to find a green cleaning service.  One way is to search the IJCSA green cleaning service directory.  There are hundreds of green cleaning companies listed in the directory including Green Clean Ohio and Newline Eco-Friendly cleaning services.  There are many more with green cleaning certifications.  Using a certified green cleaning company shows responsibility on the consumers part too.

It is very important for cleaning professionals to know about bloodborne pathogens because it can cause human disease. Infections can be spread through the blood and also body fluids. You can be exposed to bloodborne pathogens if they come in contact with your nose or mouth. Also if you have an open wound in the skin and if you come in contact with dirty needles. In order to help prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens it is safe to not eat, drink, smoke, or apply lip balm in the affected area.

If you are a cleaning professional there are tools you can use to further prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and to stop them from spreading. First it is very important to always wear gloves and eye protection. When removing trash it is important to not compress the trash bag in case there are dirty needles inside. If needles are found make sure they are thrown in the proper container. These tools are important for employees but can be taught to friends and family members to increase their safety.

Cleaning the infected area is very important to decrease the spreading of bloodborne pathogens. Never use the same sponge or towel after cleaning the infected area. Remove wet cloths carefully without splashing. If there is body fluid present then there are spill kits to soak up the fluid. Make sure to disinfect the area with the appropriate supplies. This is important because if you do not disinfect the area then whoever uses the facility after you is exposed to bloodborne pathogens and can further spread. After cleaning dispose of gloves then wash your hands to help reduce the spread of disease. If you believe you came in contact with bloodborne pathogens tell your supervisor immediately and make sure to document it. By following all these safety precautions you can save yourself from getting infectious diseases and other protect the people around you.

Green cleaning/going green is a widely used term that can mean something different to everyone. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business defines green cleaning as simply taking steps to conserve energy, reduce pollution and saving money. The strategy of conserving energy can include turning off light when leaving and turning off water while brushing your teeth.  Turning off water when filling buckets and cleaning machines.  Using energy-efficient light bulbs and large appliances with high efficiency ratings, which may be a bit more expensive initially, but they can save energy and money in the long run. Recycling is a key component of reducing pollution, also using natural cleaning products for the home, office and more.  Going green is a lifestyle change for homes, offices and cleaning companies consciously aware of the surrounding environment.

Green cleaning for cleaning companies refers to using cleaning methods and products with environmentally friendly ingredients and procedure which are designed to preserve human health and environmental quality.  Green cleaning techniques and products avoid the use of products which contain toxic chemicals, some of which emit volatile organic compounds causing respiratory, dermatologic and other conditions.  Green cleaning can also describe the way residential and industrial cleaning are manufactured.

Having a green cleaning program is beneficial to my business because of its positive effects on the environment and people’s health.  It will reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals.  It reduces issues with breathing. Indoor air quality will improve by reducing particles.  It is much safer for pregnant women and cancer patients.

Using a green cleaning program is much cheaper than using toxic chemicals.  It improves the cleaning process and system.  Improves maintenance and how equipment runs.  It meets legal requirements for use in schools and other settings.  It will lower the risk my business has within the community.
