The importance of blood-borne certification pathogens training is very often under-rated. It is of the utmost important that owners, employees are trained with the latest material. As blood-borne pathogens are everywhere, every second of every minute,of every hour,of every day, week, month,of every year and so on. workers in the health care industry and related occupations are at risk of blood-borne pathogens, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) on a frequent basis.

The risk of exposure is can be minimized by educating and being diligent in making a plan of action and following it, but also continually evolving the plans, and evolving with the risk of greater threats. Without proper training  may just wipe up blood with out gloves, compact garbage with hands, or throw blooding bedding in garbage.

The IJCSA bloodborne training provided also insures the people that we serve, treat  will also be insured a clean, non infectious facility, to sleep, work, have a medical procedure in with being made ill. With employees being educated about the risk of blood-borne pathogens we are eliminating possible exposure one step at a time. Thus ensuring one less pathogen exposure at a time. Saving lives, one training at a time.

The real value of this green cleaning certification depends on how this knowledge can benefit my customer.

These are the steps that I will follow to implement a green cleaning program inside my company.

The first, is tell the customer about the new green cleaning certification.

Second, Inform the client about the benefits that a green certified commercial cleaning can bring to them, employees, and the community.

Third, explain what is green cleaning.

Four, talk about the safe products that we use and give them a list.

Fifth, communicate with the employees the importance of safe and natural green cleanings.

Sixth, after the first cleaning get a review from my customers  and employees to see if they prefer the natural cleanings over the hazardous chemical cleanings.

Seventh, spread the word that our company now only uses natural cleaning practices that are safe for everybody.

Getting certified in green cleaning will benefit me for the rest of my life. I was affected by the wildfires in Malibu and almost had my house burned down. My house was completely filled with smoke and it is still a process of getting everything back to normal. Driving around Malibu so many homes are burned to the ground, foundations are filled with toxins, and the air is very polluted. Green cleaning cannot only improve the quality of my life but also my community.

My work environment is a high school where my cleaning practices are affecting hundreds of students everyday. There has been many outbreaks of the flu virus in the school because lots of the custodians do not have good cleaning practices.  Using green cleaning products would be highly beneficial for the schools because it is cost effective. In the Malibu schools lots of parents try to sue the district, so by having green practices it reduces liability.

Having my first child has really changed my life forever. I am so hyper aware of everything he does. Now I really have to be concerned about how I clean the countertops and wash his clothes. I did not realize that common laundry detergents have chlorine in them. I now have learned that I can go outside to my lemon tree and use a lemon as a cleaning agent. I also learned to have minimum exposure to metals around children.

I grew up in a poor town in the Philippines, I was never taught about green cleaning and green products. My family would just use what was readily available. Through all this knowledge I have learned I can teach my family members who are here in the states and also my family who are still in the Philippines. Such simple things can be used for green cleaning. Just boiling orange peels can be used as a green air freshener. Green furniture polish can be made from olive oil, lemon, and vinegar. It is so easy to look up green companies by going to the IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory located here: https://www.ijcsa.org/Green-Cleaning-Services

Green cleaning has changed my life for the better and hopefully it will change you life for the better too!

This isn't an intervention for those poor drinking habits, although there is scrutiny of alcohol. There are a few things you may ponder when told an increased risk of cancer is associated with the manufacturing of Isopropyl Alcohol. Can this affect me? Maybe you remember reading the name on different ingredient lists (also called propanol, isopropanol rubbing alcohol.)

Alcohol Isopropyl is a petrochemical. Through skin exposure some people react with signs of redness, itching, and/or rashes. The petroleum based chemical, like other solvents, has displayed brain and/or nerve damage with repeated exposure. Some study shows buildup promotes illness in the body. The IJCSA Green Certification course offers the suggestion to replace Isopropyl Alcohol with ethanol or 100 proof alcohol in solution with water. A place where harm can be limited is important in the Mixology process--how products are manufactured and mixed.

Many more hazardous chemicals exist in the cleaning industry. Remembering toxins may be difficult for most. Common names to avoid are Chlorine, Ammonia, and Flouride. Chlorine and Ammonia are both listed on the EPA's Community-Right-to-Know list as toxic chemicals. Author and Doctor John Yiammouyiannis estimates between 30,000 and 50,000 people die from fluoride poisoning each year. Found in drinking water, an acceptable concentration of 1 ppm isnt farm from 2 ppm which starts health risks.

In short, everyday cleaning products are assembled with toxins. Harsh toxins exist in places you may not expect. Harmful effects of using everyday cleaning products can involve irritation to the eyes, mouth, nose, throat, and skin. Additional complications may cause eye damage, lightheadedness, confusion, memory loss, headaches, and more. Possibly some of the most important means of damage are VOCs. Volatile organic compounds are the solvents and other compounds which evaporate into the air and help supply the formation of smog.

Compared to popular everyday cleaning brands, natural green products hold much more value. There is potential to reverse the harmful effects of everyday cleaning chemicals with natural green ones. Common household ingredients for natural cleaning can be lemon juice, conventional and electrolyzed water, borax, vinegar, salt, mineral oil, baking soda, washing soda, vegetable based soap, and plants with high saponin levels. Using eco-friendly products over name brands yields health benefits, increased morale, improved productivity, cost savings, improved community relations, and environmental gain. Everyone needs to clean something daily. You have a choice to use either harmful chemicals or natural green solutions. Harmful chemicals are in everyday cleaning products and have negative health effects. Natural green solutions offer a better choice.

Glass cleaners have a chemical in it called isopropyl alcohol and ammonia. These toxic chemicals can cause irritation to your eyes, skin, can cause coughing and wheezing.  Some people think that all-purpose cleaners are safe but they contain 2- butoxyethanol.  These cleaners can cause a person to have headaches, feeling faint and confusion.

Natural cleaning products are a better choice. Natural cleaning products are better for your health.  Common household products such as baking soda, vinegar, olive oil and lemon juice along are a better choice for the use of cleaning your environment. Due to the fact that you can eat these products, make them a safer choice for cleaning.

Harmful common household products have effects on people’s health that may not even realize.  When you choose to switch to natural cleaning products, you will feel better and be saving money to.  It is an easy switch because you already have the items in your kitchen cabinet.

Janitorial employees need training in bloodborne pathogens prevention because as they clean various buildings from business offices to medical offices there is always potential to being exposed to bloodborne pathogens from accidental bodily fluid spills or needles or other similar medical devices that are not properly disposed of in biohazard bins.  Janitorial employees need to be prepared to prevent exposure and also what to do should they be exposed.

Training in how to recognize a potential hazard and how to properly handle said hazard should be provided by the employer to the employee.  Should an employee encounter a needle they should be wearing appropriate medical equipment and should handle the needle carefully and dispose of in a proper sharps bin that is labeled and has a lid.  Proper personal preventative equipment can include masks, gloves, gowns, face shields and/ or protective eyewear.   Those who are at a higher risk of exposure can also consider vaccinations to help reduce risk of exposure.

Employers should have a plan on how to respond to potential exposure and should keep record of any needle sticks (sharps injury log) or exposure and medical records associated with at work exposure.  Should an employee get stuck by a needle or have a pathogen enter thru broken skin, mouth, nose, or eyes needs to quickly wash out the pathogen with water (soap and water for skin) and seek medical attention.  After handling any item that is used to clean up a spill should be properly disposed of as well as protective equipment and hands should be washed with soap and water before putting on new protective equipment and continuing with assigned tasks.

With proper training in prevention and response the risk of contracting bloodborne illnesses while providing janitorial services can be greatly reduced.  With knowledge attained from training a person is able to make better decisions while at work to prevent themselves and others from exposure.
