When choosing a janitorial service for your home or business, and looking for "Green" companies, research what their idea of green is. Environmentally friendly cleaning programs can vary widely in how low their environmental impact is.

Another consideration is, how effective are the cleaners being used? We still want our surfaces to look clean. Do the practices used disinfect? A large part of cleaning is the reduction of germs, bacteria, viruses. A main concern in our effort to keep our homes and business "clean" is reducing the chance for illnesses.

Who determines if a cleaning solution is considered a "Green Product'? Many companies use certain, very publicly recognized cleaners such as Ecosense, 7th Generation, Method. At least these are in marked packaging with ingredient lists and environmental claims. There are an equal number of janitorial companies that "make" their own solutions. I would really ask exactly what is in each solution in the spray bottles that are used on your property. Is what's being used widely accepted as effective and environmentally friendly? Does it deliver a good result? Does it disinfect?

Does the janitorial service use washable cloths, mops, dusters or disposable wipes and paper towels? Disposable items negatively impact the environment. Washable, re-usable items are considered a "green practice". Green Practices are just as important as utilizing green solutions to clean with.

To sum it up, do your research before you choose a janitorial services company. If you are a janitorial service business owner, consider all of the aspects of truly being a "Green Company" and strive to commit yourself to it.

When you hear the term "blood-borne pathogens", what do you think of? First thing that comes to my mind is a zombie invasion. Okay, it's not as scary (or cool) as that, but it is something to take serious. Anyone whose job requires potential risk to coming in contact with bodily fluid needs to be informed of blood-borne pathogens. Why? Because you don't want to become a zombie, of course! Or at least get very, very sick.

Blood-borne pathogens are disease-causing microorganisms that exist in blood. They can be transmitted through mucus membranes, cuts, or abrasions. Two examples of blood-borne pathogen diseases are hepatitis B (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). What is even scarier about these diseases is that you can have it without immediately knowing because it can take some time before signs and symptoms appear.

As cleaning service employees, we are at risk of coming in contact with blood-borne pathogens. That is why it is important for us to take precaution against these diseases. That means wearing proper safety gear, learning proper ways to disinfect, and properly disposing of potentially contaminated items. It requires us to be knowledgeable on blood-borne pathogens and know what procedure to follow if we suspect we have been exposed.

Keep safe practices a priority with every cleaning job you do and we won't have to experience a real life World War Z.

Hi! I'm John and I'm the owner of Lean Green Cleaning Co. When I decided to start a business, I also wanted to do my part for the environment. That's why I chose to create a company that is eco-friendly, sustainable, and provides a safer alternative to traditional cleaning services.

I've passed IJCSA's Green Cleaning Certification Program and have combined the techniques I've learned there with my own experiences into a new green cleaning program. I've found that many green products can be just as effective as traditional cleaners without the worry of toxic chemicals and environmental damage.

I'm based on Long Island and specialize in residential cleaning with a personal touch. You can learn more about me and about Lean Green Cleaning Co. at my website: LeanGreenLI.com.

I got my Bachelor and Master degree both in Environmental Engineering. That gives me more concerns on how to improve the environment quality and how to make the earth better. Being green cleaning certified will benefit myself by giving me confidence that I can make the planet better even just as an individual.

Human beings are responsible for a variety of environmental problems, but we can also take some methods to reduce the damage that we are causing to the planet. Being green cleaning certified will give me more opportunities to tell others that green natural cleaners are much better than chemical cleaners in many ways.

As a contractor, Philip Ross Industries works on a lot of many government construction projects. Site cleaning service is an important loop during the whole construction process. Being green cleaning certified will benefit our field workers. When doing cleaning jobs, our field workers will not worry that they are exposed under those toxic and dangerous chemicals. That can improve their productivity and health.

By join the big family of Green Cleaning Services, we will provide better service to our clients. Being Green Cleaning certified will give our company a competitive advantage to win more bids and more opportunities to 'build' the earth better.

After learning so much about the safety of blood-borne pathogen it makes me take every precaution on how to better protect myself and employees from here on out. The improper techniques of this area can lead to diseases and even as big as death in the workplace. As an employer, it is our responsibility to ensure safety for everyone including ourselves. At all times we must make sure that we are taking measures to increase our safety. Lets talk about some of the risks.

It is crucial as a cleaning service that we decontaminate the areas in which we have been given the task, not only for ourselves but for others as well. Always place used materials into proper places and color coded bags. When done with cleaning it is a must that we disinfect our materials that we will reuse. As well, always make sure that you or your employees thoroughly wash your hands immediately after working. This is just the tip of the iceberg when protecting yourselves with blood-borne illnesses.

Lastly, blood-borne can be dangerous and should be taken serious! We all play an important roll in this industry. To be sure that we all stay up to date on this very serious matter we could always re-educate ourselves on the osha website. I hope that we all are able to face these concerns with ourselves and employees when needed. Lets all reduce or eliminate the dangers of workplace exposure to blood-borne pathogens by putting what we've learned into place.

Bloodborne Pathogens and Work Place Safety.

It is important for cleaning employees and staff to have knowledge of bloodborne pathogens. This knowledge will protect individuals from work place exposure to blood or other possibly infectious materials. Bloodborne pathogens can be spread if the proper guidelines aren’t followed.

Bloodborne pathogens are diseases present in the blood and body fluids. These body fluids include saliva, vomit, urine, semen etc., which can infect and cause diseases in humans. The most known of these are Human Immunodeficiency Virus also known as HIV, AIDS, and the Hepatitis B virus.

To reduce or eliminate the dangers of workplace exposure to bloodborne pathogens, an employer must put an exposure control plan into action. Employees should know how and where to store used needles. Blood and body fluid spills should be treated as if they are infectious. Be sure to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when cleaning up spills. By not following the proper clean up guidelines a person is at risk of contracting diseases and possible death.
