The group gathered outside the school during a fundraising dinner and expressed dismay at the school's decision not to rehire its janitorial staff when their contract expired at the end of July. Instead, the school hired a new cleaning crew and pays them $7.75 per hour.
"Think about how much these people are making," said Alyce Toombs, a member of the old janitorial staff. "They're not making $25,000 a year .. I believe that at $7.75, these people might be making $12,000 or $13,000 a year... And who can live on that?"

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Health officials say the flu season is off to an early start in states neighboring Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Health doesn’t officially start tracking cases until October, but they are hearing about reports that the illness is already showing up in numbers that are close to what other states like Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas are seeing.
In Wisconsin, officials say from the start of the month through Monday there have been 19 confirmed cases of influenza in the state. Eight people have been hospitalized. In 2016 during this time they only saw five cases.
North Dakota health officials say they have confirmed nine cases so far this month, including four in counties that border Minnesota. Three of them were across from East Grand Forks. The other was near Fergus Falls.

The National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against the digital on-demand platform Handy Technologies Inc., alleging that workers who provide its home cleaning services are employees despite the company’s claims to the contrary.
The case is one of the first in which the agency is directly addressing under what circumstances a sharing-economy company’s control over its workers makes it their legal employer –- an issue on which its approach could soon change under Republican leadership.
The complaint, issued last Monday by the agency’s Boston-based regional director and provided to Bloomberg by the workers’ attorney, alleges that Handy “has misclassified its cleaners as ‘independent contractors,’ while they are in fact statutory employees” who are entitled to the protections of federal labor law.
