I work for the City of Wilsonville, and our buildings get a fair amount of traffic from the public so it is absolutely crucial that we do the best job we can to make sure are buildings are clean and safe for everyone to use. Think about it, you wouldn't want to use a bathroom that hasn't been cleaned in months right?

We all have things we need to do at work, and it's our job as custodial staff to make sure that all the buildings are as clean as can be so that work goes smoothly and efficiently for everyone. It's not fair to ask the other employees to do our jobs for us, nobody wants that. We can't expect managers, secretaries, and the grounds crew, etc. to stop what they're doing we have to be the ones doing this so that the city can function properly.

Lastly, we as custodians are on the front lines of cleaning and maintaining buildings. We have to ensure that all parts of the buildings, whether its the bathrooms, breakrooms, common areas, etc. our duty is to make them not just presentable but clean so that they can be used and/or enjoyed by the public and faculty. I personally can't leave a room without asking myself if I would let my children be in there, we all must do our part and ensure these buildings we work on are safe and clean to use, and with this directory that I'll link, you can find all kinds of custodial staff and cleaning companies that fit a variety of needs

As a custodian who works for my city, I can tell you all about the importance of not only customer service, but the importance of it in our field in particular. To start with, I would like to emphasize the importance of 'service with a smile' I know it sounds cheesy, but it's really important to be approachable in all scenarios, I can't tell you how many times I've been in the middle of something (or about to head to lunch) and I get a call from someone reporting a huge mess, it's often not pretty and can be inconvenient as times, but it's important to remember that we're all working and trying to do our best and if it could potentially cause issues, simply let your supervisor know.

The other most important part of customer service in regards to janitorial work is to be attentive, listen to any and all complaints or comments your colleagues may have. Sometimes mistakes are made, things get missed, or even forgotten, it happens, we're human, and if any of those happen complaints are likely to follow. The best advice I can give, speaking from experience is to never take complaints personally, complaints are about the work not you as a person, it's important to listen, not just hear, but really listen to what people are saying to you, that way you can take in what you are being told so you can respond to the situation properly, and if you feel that the complaint is unwarranted or not accurate, just hear them out then respond appropriately and politely. In my time in this field, I can verify that there are many great and committed people that are not only great workers, but great human beings who really want to do the best they can for their employers, here is a link to the IJCSA Member Directory https://www.ijcsa.org/Find-A-Cleaning-Service-Janitorial-Service here you can find qualified people for quality cleaning and service.

Understanding of the importance of OSHA guidelines for the handling of bloodborne pathogens is essential for cleaning staff/ employees to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. Bloodborne pathogens, such as HIV and hepatitis B and C can cause serious health issues when transmitted. Cleaning personnel are often in situations where exposure is possible due to potential contact with bodily fluids or sharp objects that could carry these pathogens. Knowing how to properly handle and dispose of such materials minimizes the risk of exposure, protecting both the employee and others in the facility.

Proper training on bloodborne pathogens equips employees with the knowledge needed to recognize potential hazards, so they can take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and others. This includes wearing proper protective equipment, such as gloves and masks, safely cleaning and disinfecting areas, and understanding how to handle and dispose of hazardous waste. Proper training also ensures that staff will know how to respond to incidents like accidental needle sticks or spills involving bodily fluids. These practices help to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.

Finally, emphasizing the importance of OSHA guidelines among cleaning staff underscores the organizations commitment to the health and safety of its employees and clients. Employees who are confident in their training/  knowledge are more likely to perform their task more effectively thus reducing the risk for themselves and others. This also helps prevent potential legal and financial repercussions for the organization, as proper training demonstrates due diligence in meeting health and safety standards. Overall a properly trained cleaning team plays a vital role in maintaining a secure and hygienic environment for everyone.

Understanding bloodborne pathogens is crucial for all employees and staff, particularly those in healthcare and related fields. These pathogens, which can be transmitted through blood and other bodily fluids, pose significant health risks. Educating staff about the nature of these pathogens, their modes of transmission, and the potential consequences of exposure is essential for maintaining a safe workplace. Training programs that focus on bloodborne pathogens equip employees with the knowledge needed to recognize hazards and implement appropriate safety measures. This includes proper handling of potentially contaminated materials, the use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to established protocols. By fostering a culture of safety and awareness, organizations can significantly reduce the risk of transmission and protect both employees and clients. Moreover, regular training and updates on bloodborne pathogens ensure that staff remain informed about best practices and any changes in regulations. This ongoing education not only enhances individual safety but also contributes to the overall health and well-being of the workplace. Ultimately, prioritizing knowledge about bloodborne pathogens is a vital component of effective employee training and organizational health strategies.

Why is it important for employees to know about bloodborne pathogens? The simple answer is that employees are the backbone of a cleaning company. Anyone who runs a cleaning company knows that if you have an employee who is fired up about doing his/her job, and doing it to the best of his/her ability, that is a valuable employee. That said, it makes sense that the company do what it can to help ensure employee safety, which includes making available to employees proper training in all aspects of cleaning, including on bloodborne pathogens.

The importance of cleaning employees knowing about bloodborne pathogens is so they will recognize potential exposure situations and take proper safety precautions. To recognize potential exposure situations, and to know what precautions to take, employees should be properly trained. Making such training available will send the message to employees that the company cares about their safety, which could directly impact employee morale, company culture, and employee job satisfaction.

Bloodborne pathogen training can include a classroom style study program (DVD, online, etc.), on-the-job style training, or a combination of these. By recognizing potential bloodborne pathogen exposure situations, and taking proper precautions, employees can prevent possible contracting viruses, such as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) or HBV (Hepatitis B Virus). HIV is associated with AIDS, and HBV can result in complications of the liver, including cancer. The seriousness of these viruses mandates a high level of attention to potential bloodborne pathogen exposure. Employees should also know what steps to take if they believe they have been exposed, which include immediately notifying the supervisor and contacting a physician. Employees should also be aware of symptoms of HIV and HBV infections, which in some cases may not manifest for several years.

In conclusion, employee training is an investment by the company that will pay off in the form of employee safety, fewer days of absence, employee morale, job efficiency, and a more positive company culture. With employees being the backbone of the company, proper training can lead to a more stable and profitable company.

As a commercial cleaning company cleaning facilities like hospitals, and doctors offices, it is extremely important to know the importance of blood borne pathogens and how to make sure you do not get exposed to them. Cleaning employees should be taking this course seriously, because we are the ones who are cleaning up the mess that is left behind.

When cleaning these types of facilities or homes that have bodily fluids, it is important to understand that you take your PPE seriously so that you are not exposed. The way you dispose of all the contaminated pieces is crucial so that it gets disposed of properly. They must be going into a specific bag for hazardous waste and making sure you are not pushing down on the bag so the air of the pathogens gets in your face.

The other important factor is how you clean the mess. Making sure your employees are not slapping around a cleaning cloth/rag and splashing it, and sanitizing after you have cleaned it. This is also going for your mop buckets, any cleaning tools you may have in your janitorial closet. All employees must be sanitizing and disinfecting all of the tools they have used to clean the mess so that you are not spreading and also cross contaminating.

A clean environment will amplify focus, decrease stress, boost morale, improve productivity, and allow for clear thinking and better decision-making. Whether it be a school, hospital, hotel, office building, apartment, or restaurant janitors play an essential role in our daily lives. When it comes to commercial cleaning, janitors are there to complete the tasks daily workers cannot do.

One of the primary benefits of having a janitorial staff is their contribution to a healthier environment.
