    Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms such as viruses or bacteria that are carried in blood and can cause disease in people. They are we call the likes of malaria, syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Immunodeficiency virus, and many others. Bloodborne pathogen training is critical to reducing the spread of these diseases. The towel you cleaned a customers blood from sneezing could be carrying HIV. Training is fundamental to understanding how to appropriately dispose of said towel.

    Identifying possibilities of exposure to Bloodborne pathogens. The most common method of exposure is through mucus membranes and/or breaks in the skin. Things like blood, vomit, and saliva may potentially carry a pathogen. The safe bet is to treat ALL bodily fluids as if they contain a pathogen.

    How to prepare? Training allows for baseline methods for treatment and prevention of spread of bloodborne pathogens. Proper disposal and cleanliness is critical and should be a priority in any Bloodborne Pathogen training. These universal guidelines can make the difference between contracting a Bloodborne disease or safely disposing and eliminating any possibility of disease contraction for yourself and/or others around you.

    In this line of work it is always safety first, never knowing what you may encounter. The cleaning business in the middle of what is to be considered the worst Pandemic ever to hit the world. Simply changing out a trash bag without the proper protection (gloves and glasses) could cause you to get a cut from some glass or needle or even com in contact with some unknown fluid(s).

    I require all of my employees to take this course and I pay for it, they say knowledge is power and I aim high. Something as simple as cleaning a surface(s) with a sharp edge which is invisible to the naked eye, without the proper gear could end fatal. 

    More importantly, knowing the correct chemicals that is  OSHA approved to kill pathogens such as but not limited to, HBV or HIV. Having the proper protective  gear, with the approved products for disinfecting and sanitizing will always produce satisfied customers.

    There a lot of reasons why cleaning the healthcare facilities is so important:

    First when we say healthcare facilities, we already know in our mind it is a place where care is given for different reasons, it could be sickness, pregnancy, simple blood work etc…. And we know the bacteria and viruses are very frequent in these places therefore every effort should be made to make sure these facilities are properly cleaned to eliminate or reduce the growth of these infectious diseases.

    The patients go to these facilities for different reasons, and we don’t want any patient to acquire any other infections than what he or she already has. However, if these places are not properly cleaned it could lead the spread of infection and a lot of people could get sicker or sick.

    Also the visitors and staff, leave their homes to go to these facilities thinking these places are properly cleaned, and I think every effort should be made that is so as we don’t want them to catch anything in these facilities, and take back to their love ones.

    All in all the management of these healthcare facilities must ensure the EVS staff are well trained, and these facilities are properly cleaned for the safety of the patients, visitors and staff.

     A cleaner or cleaning technician in a healthcare setting plays one of the most important roles in healthcare.     Bloodborne Pathogens are an extreme danger to anyone working around or near them. That is why OSHA came up with the Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. By their measure this standard alone can be responsible to preventing over 8,000 bloodborne infections and more than 200 deaths each year. These are impressive numbers considering that there are so many frontline workers exposed to the dangers of Bloodborne Pathogens.

    These Bloodborne Pathogens are defined as a microorganism (such as a virus or bacteria) that can be present in blood and bodily fluids. These pathogens can be passed from person to person through contact by contaminated blood or any other bodily fluids. Hence the extreme danger. For many frontline workers, these hazards don't present themselves until its way too late, sometimes getting stabbed by a needle wrapped in cloth, or deep in a pants pocket. 

    All frontline workers need to arm themselves with the proper protective equipment and protocols in the event that they themselves become exposed. Especially for those that do biohazard cleaning, this becomes even more of a truth. These workers have to keep in mind that almost everything that they are working near can be contaminated. And with a job as dangerous as that, one mistake can cost them their life.
