Well as everyone knows a bloodborne pathogen is a microorganism in the blood that can cause several diseases, such as HBV, HIV, or AIDS. So working in the sanitation and janitorial field there are often times you will be exposed to all kinds of bodily fluids.

Knowing how to approach these situations properly are important for clients and staff, because you must know how to disinfect and sanitize areas and surfaces in order to prevent spreading and exposure.

As long as everyone uses the "Universal Precaution" rule established saying all blood and certain bodily fluids should be considered potentially infectious to minimize the risk of exposure. As well as proper labeling and coloring for all used laundry and equipment.

It is imperative that all cleaning employees and staff know about bloodborne pathogens, the risk of encountering them, how to properly protect themselves and others, as well as what to do when exposed. These employees are at high risk of being exposed to bloodborne pathogens during their everyday work hours but with the proper training they can greatly decrease the level of risk of exposure. They need to know how to safely clean an infectious substance, dispose of sharps and other infectious materials, and the proper protection that should be worn while doing these tasks.

There are specific protocols to follow when dealing with these potentially infectious substances such as "Universal Precautions", post exposure management, and exposure control. Following Universal Precautions, you should assume all bodily fluids are infectious and use the proper PPE to handle them. When dealing with blood or bodily fluids its important to treat them with caution and to dispose of them properly to minimize the risk of exposure. Wearing the correct gloves, mask, or other PPE will greatly decrease the risk of being exposed. Exposure control plans or regulations should always be followed when you're at risk of exposure; they should include all the information you need to protect yourself and others while cleaning up bodily fluids in your workplace. In the event that you're exposed to any bloodborne pathogens, the post exposure management plans are there to guide you through the situation. Any possible exposures must be reported to your employer and physician immediately to decrease the risk of contracting a disease.

If employees in this field do not know about bloodborne pathogens and the proper way to handle them, then the risk of them and others being exposed raises exponentially. This can cause outbreaks of diseases and halt all workplace activities indefinitely. In healthcare settings its extremely important that all employees have sufficient knowledge of bloodborne pathogens so that the patients and workers can remain safe. Its also important that they're are equipped with the proper PPE to deal with these potentially infectious substances. Without these standards and regulations, patients and employees would not be able to trust the facility with their health and many people would contract preventable diseases.

The importance of cleaning employees as well as staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens is critical to any business because it provides critical knowledge, the proper PPE, the steps and precautions necessary in case an employee or staff comes in contact with bloodborne pathogens.

A bloodborne pathogen by its definition is a pathogenic microorganism that are present in the human body and can cause disease in humans, having the critical knowledge or training needed whether staff or cleaning employee will deter the negligence and lower the potential accidents including death when handling bloodborne pathogens.

Another benefit in knowing about bloodborne pathogens is the PPE to use when handling and working around bloodborne pathogens there are many different PPE in the market today; however using the correct PPE will not only save time but as well as lives and the health of your organization.

Bloodborne pathogens are contagious and can be fatal, by having steps in place as well as the necessary precautions to take in case of an emergency is a safeguard to your organization, their families, and the community.

In short implementing the Universal Precautions when handling as well knowing about bloodborne pathogens should be practiced in every organization, it is our moral responsibility to inform our clients, educate our employees, and train our organizations on bloodborne pathogens in any setting and continue to lead the way in health and safe workplace cleaning practices.

It is very important for cleaning companies to ensure that their employees know the correct precautions to follow concerning bloodborne pathogens. Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms found in human blood that can cause disease. Hepatitis B(HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency virus(HIV) are two majors diseases that are highly infectious when it come in contact with the mucus membrane.  Companies need to make sure the employees know how to protect themselves and respond to situations that may be contaminated with bloodborne pathogens.

The Occupational Safety Health Administration(OSHA) has created guidelines that all employers must follow to ensure employees treat all bodily fluids as being contaminated. Every jobsite has to have a written exposure control plan available in case an employee is exposed.  The plan must stay updated and reviewed annually.  Center for Disease Control(CDC) has established Universal Precautions as well.

Employees should be trained to wear the Proper Protective Equipment(PPE) and know how to dispose of needles in the proper container.  Employees should also know to disinfect their buckets and equipment after use and properly dispose of towels in a biohazard bag.  Most importantly, they must wash their hands immediately after cleaning up bodily fluids.  All of these precautions has been established for the safety of the employee and their clients.  Knowledge is very powerful and necessary to ensure we follow guidelines that protects everyone's health.

“Gone too soon”, we’ve heard it said time and time again, but I guess cliches are cliches for a reason. When you have a person that you loved so much and that made a profound and positive impact on your life taken from you so early that their memory is hazy in your mind, “gone too soon” is an appropriate sentiment I guess.

My uncle wasn’t a perfect man. His myriad of transgressions began way before I was born, but he was a loving man, and he loved me. He taught me how to play strategy games and always encouraged me to think critically but to have fun doing it. Looking back, I know that it wasn’t always a convenient time to play with me. I couldn’t tell you what was specifically happening with him then, but I can remember the look in his eyes conveyed a look of being tired, weary from a hard life lived and a battle I didn’t even know he was fighting.

He eventually lost that battle, and closed his weary eyes to take a well needed rest. I know it sounds silly in a way, but I now know the technical term for what took my uncle. It was a bloodborne pathogen

I’ve lost several relatives (including my uncle) to disease. Disease is a merciless combatant. It is no respecter of persons and takes the child and the old alike. I have felt the sting of loss caused by disease too many times to consider it something to mess around with. We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our communities to do everything we can to take this fight seriously.

Take it from a grown man who was once a little boy who would have given anything to play Chess just one more time with the person he loved . This matter is truly a matter of life or death.
