Green cleaning is the process of choosing cleaning products that are better for both people and the planet. Switching to green cleaning products is good for the health and well being of people, and it also prevents unnecessary chemicals from being released into the environment.

Changing to greener methods helps reduce pollution to our waterways and the air and it minimizes your impact on ozone depletion and global climate change with fewer smog-producing chemicals. Going green has several benefits for a cleaning company and for a business during these challenging times because that process can improve their efficiency and produce a healthier workplace.

What is customer service? Is it how well the service is performed? Is it being punctual? How about prompt communication with the client, done in a friendly manner?

Yes. Customer service is all of these mentioned and more!

Here in the janitorial and professional cleaning business, we react heavily with the public on a daily basis. From initial estimates, to scheduling appointments, communicating clients about any issues or concerns, having excellent customer service is absolutely essential to getting the job done correctly, and leaving the client satisfied with our services.

For so many of us small business owners, creating something wonderful to offer the public and to offer something useful to help our communities is a life-long goal, and the driving force behind our businesses. We have dreamed of building something fantastic from the ground up, using our own hands, and our passion to help others. Customer service will always be the cornerstone of that foundation, because without first putting our clients' needs with the services that we offer, there is nothing to build upon!

In 1991 the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or simply known as OSHA instituted a standard for facilities handling any type of infectious material. This practice was updated in 2001 and made mandatory for all new employees that have the potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens or potentially infectious material. Employees should be trained within 10 days of hire and then annually. The Bloodborne Pathogen training is mandatory in the healthcare field or any business that deals with infectious materials or where any employee may have a reasonable risk for exposure.

Employees should be trained in the knowledge to be able to safely clean offices or job sites without posing a hazard to themselves. 2 of the most important, but not limited to, microorganisms that employers need to train their employees on are Hepatitis B Virus or HBV and Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV. An open area in the skin is a portal or entry site for the microorganism. Any breaks in the skin should be covered prior to commencing any cleaning activity, so as to close the portal of entry. Employees in healthcare facilities should be offered the Hepatits B vaccine free of charge. The vaccine is a series of 3 shots given at Month 1 Month 3 and Month 6.  Employees that are in charge of cleaning facilities with medical waste should be trained in the proper handling and disposal of infectious waste. Any cut, scrape, stick or puncture should be immediately reported to a Supervisor so that the employee can be checked at a healthcare facility.

Employees should have access to their company's Exposure Control Plan.

This training is important for employees as it makes them aware of potential hazards in the work place. This also benefits clients as they know the company that they are hiring is taking care in training their employees and that the cleaning company can also teach the client's employees on the benefits of safe workplace habits.

Having a mold prevention and cleaning routine is more then beneficial, it's necessary. Having a mold prevention plan will help ensure the safety of our employees, our clients, and the company as a whole. One part of the plan would be, having everyone trained to some small degree on mold and the seriousness that is connected with it. Having trained associates will ensure being able to stay on top of mold prevention, and fixing any concerns as soon as possible.

Another benefit of having a mold prevention plan is being able to identify when a job may need a professional specialist for the cleaning. Not equipping our associates with the information on mold, and the prevention protocol from disturbing the deadly fungi, could lead to people health being compromised among other things. Mold need to be handled in a certain way, by only trained specialists, and its very important for all associates to know.

Another benefit of having a company mold prevention plan, is that it can be used for on the job cleaning, or for the physical building for our company. The integrity of the structure of where my associates come to and from to perform jobs, need to be safe as well. A regular building routine of checking all moisture spots in the building will be performed. As well as, fixing and replacing any necessary building material or area that may have a leak, and drying out any areas that may raise a concern for moisture control.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in blood that can cause diseases. These diseases can include HIV and HBV. The are spread when the pathogens come in contact with mucus membranes or breaks in the skin. Blood, saliva or vomit can all be contaminated; and employees are to assume all blood and bodily fluids are infected.

In order to reduce exposure, all employers are required by law to have a plan for employees to follow. Employees in the healthcare field are subject to the standard. Additionally, employees in the housekeeping field may be subject to the standard, including in laundry services, as they may be involved the cleanup of bodily fluids. Methods of compliance include: universal precautions, sharps disposal containers, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment; decontamination procedures and removal of regulated waste.

It is important that all employers and employees are educated and aware of the standards put in place by OSHA. It is a necessary step in limiting the spread of infectious disease and keeping all employees safe in the workplace
