The benefits of switching to Green Cleaning are vast and seemingly unnumbered, and in todays world, our health and the health of our environment is increasingly on our collective minds. Many governments are now requiring contractors to be certified in Green Cleaning and to employ green cleaning practices into their routines.

Businesses and consumers alike can benefit from Green Cleaning certification, and according to the website run by the State of New York, the benefits can be broken down into multiple areas including benefits to public and personal health and wellbeing, increased public safety, superior cleaning efficiency, better financial wellbeing, an improved sense of community, and of course, benefits to the environment, including sustainability.

Additionally, cleaning professionals are likely to benefit exponentially moreso than the average American, as the products used daily in the line of work can greatly impact a persons health. When using green cleaning products as a business, professionals can expect to experience reduced airway irritation, as well as fewer skin and eye problems, thereby increasing productivity and causing an overall reduction in work-force down time.

As more and more companies claim to be Green, it becomes increasingly difficult to determine who is truthfully adhering to the stringent set of policies and procedures required to be considered a green cleaning service. By accessing IJCSAs Green Cleaning Service Directory, consumers can know that they are hiring a professional who is educated on Green Cleaning, and professionals can advertise their commitment to their customers and the environments health.

While some states are passing laws on green cleaning products, cleaning companies are going to be faced with the fact that they can go green like these companies or eventually go out of business for not keeping with the times. As the “green clean” trend grows in demand its origins are clear and easy to grasp. In an article I read this quote: ““We should no longer be limited to repairing damage after it has been done; nor should we continue to allow the entire environment to be used as a laboratory.” – Council on Environmental Quality report published in 1971” really struck me.

We have known cleaning chemicals have been linked to cancer, death, water supply and ground poisoning and yet we still use them today. There are plenty of great eco-friendly products and green cleaning companies to choose from. There was a time when chemists would come up with a great solution for cleaning a product and everyone would clamber for it only to discover years down the road that it has a long-lasting detrimental effect on biological life and the environment.

Besides all the known side effects like cancer, sterility, caustic burns take a look at this search result for study+ lungs + cleaning + agents https://www.bing.com/search?q=study+on+lungs+from+cleaning+agents&form=EDGTCT&qs=PF&cvid=df7c5d4ea7884654b5eaa3c5a6d9e585&refig=ff8e4ee4e77e409593a9685026ee0ac9&cc=US&setlang=en-US&plvar=0  The evidence is out there educate yourselves on the products you/your company uses the results may just change your mind.

Cleaning products with warning labels should be an indication to all that there is something horribly dangerous with the product, do your research on what the harmful ingredient is and then see if there isn’t an equivalent product that has no warning labels, and instead has a green cleaning solution certification sticker.  Knowledge does not have to be a factor anymore, we know, we have learned from those past mistakes and now need to practice what we learned.

Our environment is precious to all of us and if we do not stop polluting it what will be left for our future generations. We cannot keep polluting our ground water and soil with these harmful agents at the rate we have been, or we will lose resources. We need to stop introducing harmful chemicals into our living and working spaces. To stop the effects of leaching of chemicals or the harm it can cause another human being or yourself, action has to start with each and everyone of us.

As a cleaning company, by going green, you know that your employees are safe, the clients are safe, and you have done everything you can to reduce the chemical foot print we leave behind if we all did our part then this world we live in will be a much safer place.  Did your chemicals cost you a bit more? Could have, but boy is it worth it.

Proper cleaning is important in all public areas but is especially critical in healthcare facilities. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that there are nearly 1.7 million cases of healthcare associated infections (HAIs). Of these more than 98,000 patients, one in 17, die due to contraction of a HAI while at a healthcare facility. This makes HAIs the most common complication of hospital care and one of the top leading causes of death in the USA. Implementing better cleaning and infection prevention practices is estimated to save between $25 billion to $32 billion in medical costs.

Ensuring appropriate education and training of those who work in a healthcare facility will increase compliance and use of best practices which will reduce the cases of HAIs. For those who are tasked with cleaning these facilities must take extra care to have proper hand hygiene, good safety culture, and an understanding of correct cleaning and disinfecting techniques for the areas they are working in. Training should include things like setting up the cleaning cart, how to properly put on personal protective equipment (PPE), and correct order to clean areas to ensure proper cleaning and disinfecting.

Those who are in charge of cleaning healthcare facilities have a critical role in preventing healthcare associated infections. The patients in healthcare facilities are at a higher risk for contracting infections. With proper training and understanding of techniques required to clean and disinfect healthcare facilities, many infections and deaths can be prevented. Refer to this directory for a list of qualified cleaning providers.

Being green cleaning certified matters to Mainstay Cleaning Services, it shows a higher-level of understanding and caring. Being certified goes beyond earning a certification, it shows our commitment to learning long lasting values that help us meet or beat customer expectations, and shows our commitment to the safety of our workers and building occupants.

Being green cleaning certified holds Mainstay Cleaning Services to a higher standard than non-certified cleaning companies by ensuring we only use cleaning agents that meet the standards of containing:Low allergens, being non-caustic, non-toxic, and having 100% biodegradable agents. In addition to cleaning agents, we will also rely on high performance, energy efficient cleaning equipment, micro-fiber cloths, and the use of recycled paper products.

The largest benefit of having a Green cleaning program is to reduce everyone's exposure to toxic chemicals (EPA, 2018, February 13). By using safe and approved cleaning agents we can safely work towards controlling the spread of germs and disease by focusing on problem areas and properly applying disinfectants, we can also help improve the overall indoor air quality by reducing air-borne dust and chemical gases, and we can help to reduce asthma attacks by keeping the dust, pollen's, and chemical allergens at bay.

Equally as important, being green certified, Mainstay Cleaning Services will be partnering with our clients in maintaining a cleaner and healthier community. Often-times our clients not only work in a certain area, but also live there as well. By using cleaning agents that are non-toxic, and 100% biodegradable we are being good stewards to the environment, thus ensuring that we leave this planet to our children in better shape than when we received it. By implementing high efficiency / green cleaning programs, overall cleaning costs can be reduced therefore increasing everyone's bottom line.

Being a small business owner means close and meaningful relationships with employees and their families.  When I first heard of going "green" I immediately saw the positive effect it would have in my workers' lives. Implementing the new green protocol will assure my customers and staff that we not only clean well, but we care well.

Having a Green Cleaning Program within my business will be in a word, "a game changer!"  Nothing distinguishes a company from the competition like going "Green."  While most of today's janitorial services are stuck in the dark ages using cancer-causing cleaning products, my new green business will be the safer option.
