After watching the video and doing a little research, Bloodborne pathogen certification is very important. So many people can be affected by one person not being properly trained on how to clean and dispose of contaminated materials. This certification not only is good for working in healthcare, but anytime you may have to clean someones blood or body fluid anywhere.

The universal precaution technique I think should be practiced at all times. Its basically treating everything thing as if it is contaminated and being extra cautious. I think applying that way of thinking every time you perform a cleaning minimizes mistakes and ensures that necessary precautions are being taking to limit exposure of Bloodborne Pathogens.

I recommend this certification for all in the industry. I will be making sure all team members get this certification and implemented into. the way we attack or job.

Gone are the days when customers would allow the cleaning of homes and offices without asking questions, without being aware of the products being used or not be aware of the environment. How times have changed! Customers are now asking about the products being used, as most people are concerned about climate change and global warming. Clients don't want to cause harm to the environment, want to ensure a legacy for future generations and use products that are biodegradable and recyclable.

In order to satisfy these requirements, it is necessary for cleaning companies to transition to using green products for cleaning. These products have either a lower percentage or no chemicals and are just as effective as the traditional products. The products are safe around children and are less harsh on the environment. As more businesses push towards a greener environment, the challenge to cleaning companies will be to migrate to the new status quo, use products that are less harmful and to maintain industry standards. More and more commercial buildings are becoming "green certified" and want providers to be certified as well. Moving in this direction quickly will allow providers to satisfy customer needs, gain market share and expand their product offering. It's a win-win situation.

The control of infectious disease is something that is near and dear to my heart after the loss of a friend.  My friend Ted Lee was a great american war hero from the Vietnam era.  He passed away from an infection as the result of a surgery he had in a hospital that I have known for not having the cleanest conditions.  I don't know for sure what caused his death, but I know if I can do anything to save anyone in the future I will.  Ted would want me to be fired up to make a difference.

The reason why hospital cleaning is important is because people are at the weakest moment in the hospital.  If they were strong at the moment, they would not need the hospital. Unfortunately our culture has put all of the potentially harmful pathogens together under the same roof.  That is why it is imperative to reduce the spread of disease.  Reduce the pathogens, so guys like Ted can have back surgery and survive to throw the football with his grandson.

When you are disinfection a hospital, remember Ted, a Green Berret, but also a great Father, Husband, GrandPa and Friend.  He deserves to make it home, help the next Ted make it home.

It very important for every cleaner to know and understand what bloodborne pathogens are and what they need to do in order not to get infected and protected themselves. Cleaners move from one office to the other and from one residence to the other.

Cleaners must take extra care of how they handle bodily fluids and blood stained materials as well as surfaces. Cleaners should not assume that it safer for them to handle anyway soiled material either by blood or any other bodily fluid any how but should do that with caution. It is required that cleaners be trained on BB pathogens even if their exposure is next to nothing.

It is very important for cleaners to handle trash with caution and know  what it means to be exposed to the pathogens so they can take care of themselves. We know that HBV and HIV can be contracted through sexual contact, sharing of hypodermic needles, open cuts, and abrasions etc.

Every one of Big River Janitorial`s employees are trained in the importance of following OSHA`s Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and are re-trained yearly

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is one of if not the greatest safety risk to the medical facility housekeeper. Housekeeping staff regularly come into contact with different forms of bloodborne pathogen spills and are often required to clean these up.Knowing how to do this and the appropriate PPE to don is essencial in keeping the employee safe.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens can result in an employee becoming infected with HBV or HIV. Once an exposure occurs the employee should immediately notify their supervisor and physician.

It is important to take precaution and assume blood and other body fluids are contaminated.  Take precautions by wearing gloves, clothes and eye protectants.  After cleaning up the fluids, it's important to carefully wash your hands appropriately.

Do not mesh trash bags, there could be a needle in the bag which could cause harm to the employee.  If a need stick does occur report the incident to your supervisor immediately.  They should have an up to date bloodborne pathogen plan also see your physician immediately.  Watch for system of HIV which attacks the liver and HBV.  Also use tongs to clean up fluids when possible.

Use the red needle container which should be labeled, non-puncture material and inspected for cracks on a daily bases.
