Harmful effects of chemicals affect us daily if we are not aware of the side effects and proper ways to effectively treat with it. However, The Green way is usually more effective.

There is an increased risk of cancer associated with the manufacturing of Isopropyl Alcohol. Isopropyl Alcohol is a flammable liquid and a fire hazard.

Some solvents, such as acetone, methylene chloride (in paint stripper), Freons (such as are used as refrigerants) and other fluorinated/chlorinated compounds are volatile organic compounds, however, they do not contribute to smog in any significant manner.

Therefore, although they are volatile organic compounds, the EPA deems them to be exempt from the "VOC" classification. In other words, air pollution regulations that limit the use of "VOCs" exempt those compounds that have a negligible effect on the formation of smog.

Green cleaning is a term that describes a growing trend in favor of using cleaning methods with environmentally-friendly ingredients and chemicals to preserve human health and environmental quality. Green cleaning techniques and products avoid the use of chemically-reactive and toxic cleaning products which contain various toxic chemicals, some of which emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) causing respiratory and dermatological problems among other adverse effects.[citation needed] Green cleaning can also describe the way residential and industrial cleaning products are manufactured, packaged and distributed. If the manufacturing process is environmentally-friendly and the products are biodegradable, then the term "green" or "eco-friendly" may apply.

Harmful chemicals are prevalent not only in general consumer cleaning products but also in foods, cosmetics, home construction, clothing and many industries. In the average American home, around 63 synthetic chemical products can be found. This equates to approximately 10 gallons of hazardous chemicals.

OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens standard, including its 2001 revisions, applies to all employers who have an employee(s) with occupational exposure (i.e., reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) that may result from the performance of the employee's duties). The liability is on employers to implement the requirements set forth in the standard. Having the wrong internal staff or contractors is an easily avoidable business risks.

That said, require staff specialize in the universal precautions that help prevent exposure to hepatitis B, C, and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Ensure staff uses a universal precaution approach to needsticks and other sharp objects to prevent exposure and have training that includes guest lectures by practicing medical physicians, nurses, and lab scientist.

The 2 major bloodborne pathogens are HIV and Hepatitis B. These are 2 potentially deadly diseases, that can have their risks of coming into contact with it minimized with the right training.

Cleaning staff need to be aware that blood and bodily fluids can potentially carry these diseases, and that certain precautions need to be taken. Proper PPE and the right knowledge can eliminate most of the risk.

The knowledge of avoiding potential diseases is even more relevant in todays current climate, with the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Proper masking, and PPE can also help with the spread of this.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. In itself, the definition of bloodborne pathogens is already frightening as it sounds. However, having a clear understanding of the pathogens that can endanger oneself while in an  occupational exposure can help minimize the risk of disease. Providing the right PPE, disposing of equipment the correct way, and using the right chemicals are essential to increased safety.

It is important for cleaning staff to be well equipped at all times. Lack of special equipment increases the chances for the employee to be exposed. For this reason, gloves, masks, and gowns shall be worn constantly. Once used and exposed, the equipment must then be disposed of unless certain equipment can be properly decontaminated and reused.

Disposing of equipment is just as important. Gowns, masks, and gloves should be properly disposed of. Sharp objects must then be placed in containers specially made for the matter. Without proper training, an employee can miss protocols and endanger others for mishandling such equipment.

Lastly, using the correct procedures for exposed areas is imperative. When in an exposed area, one must always treat blood as infectious. Properly cleaning and disposing of equipment is essential. This is why the exposure control plan, vaccinations, training/education, and PPE is important to understand because it decreases the risk of exposure.

It is paramount that cleaners of any type know what bloodborne pathogens are to properly protect themselves and others from infection & to prevent the spread of disease.

The proper use of PPE, how to properly sanitize areas where bloodborne pathogen exposure has occurred or may have occurred & what to do if exposure does occur is all essential information in order for cleaning professionals to do their job, protect their clients & the general public.

It is also important for them to know the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens & what protocol to follow if accidental exposure has occurred to minimize the chance of the spreading of disease. In certain fields, exposure risks are greater than others but knowing how & when to use PPE &   the right chemicals and tools when cleaning up bloodborne pathogens, is key to protect themselves & others.

Bloodborne Pathogens microorganisms present in human blood and can cause diseases in humans. These pathogens include Hepatitis B (HBV) a disease that attacks the liver and Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) also associated with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

This is why OSHA along with the CDC came up with guidelines to follow when handling any blood and curtain body fluids. These guidelines are called The Universal Precautions it states that all  blood and body fluids should be considered infectious. When handling items that has been contaminated and Proper Protection Equipment should be worn at all times when handling soiled item, these items must be disposed of in red or orange container or properly label container.

These guidelines are important in my profession because often times you maybe exposed or called to clean up blood or bodily fluid waste. Take the proper precaution to protect yourself and others by quickly cleaning area, being sure not to spread the fluids. If exposed to an fluid contact supervisor so that he can give you the proper procedures and protocol then contact a doctor immediately.

By using Natural products, they will have less of a impact on the Environment. The actual risk from these chemicals at typical exposure levels are often not as hazardous if at all, compared to normal chemicals used for cleaning. Cleaning products are released into the Environment through Evaporation and rinsing down the drain.

Certain ingredients in cleaning products can present hazard concerns to exposed populations and Environments, such as toxicity to aquatic species in waters receiving waste or run-off. Some of the chemicals ingredients can cause reproductive harm in a species, killing of its population slowly to extinction. Volatile organic compounds or (VOC) can affect indoor air quality and also contribute to Smog formation in outdoor air. All occupants in a building will be exposed to a volatile component of a cleaning product. Sounds like, you just might want, green clean done after reading that, huh?

Bloodborne Pathogens: The Importance of Cleaning Employees Knowing About Bloodborne Pathogens

It is essential to educate janitorial staff members about bloodborne pathogens in the cleaning industry, since they are high risk for potential exposure to life threatening illness and infectious diseases. The employer can teach cleaning staff how to minimize the spread of infectious diseases, increase their understanding of workplace policy and procedural practices; while ensuring they are able maintain a safe, healthy and clean environment to reduce the spread of diseases among others.

As part of cleaning personnel, staff members must be trained on the importance of practicing good hygiene habits by washing their hands, wearing personal protective equipment, safe handling and disposal of sharp objects, and making sure they are up to date with their vaccinations, to reduce the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens to protect themselves.

In order to minimize the spread of disease for others, employees must thoroughly clean, sanitize, and disinfect all areas in the workplace. In addition, employers should confirm that personnel have a thorough understanding of policy and procedural practices to ensure compliance with universal precautions, and extensive knowledge of the exposure control plan to address potential contact, to prevent serious illness and/or death.
