I will be implementing a rotating schedule split between 6 buildings. By using a rotating schedule I can routinely clean the carpet at each facility 1 time every six months.

This rotating schedule will ultimately keep occupants in the building in a healthier environment. It will also maintain a clean carpet keeping appearance and improving the life of the carpet. this is also keeping up with the recommendation's for how often carpets should be cleaned.

Implementing a carpet cleaning program into my business involves several key steps to ensure effectiveness and quality. Firstly, I plan to purchase professional-grade equipment suitable for carpet cleaning tasks. This investment will enable us to perform thorough and efficient cleaning on a regular basis. Additionally, I aim to send all my employees through the training programs offered by the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA). By undergoing IJCSA training, my workforce will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out carpet cleaning tasks to industry standards.

Having carpets cleaned by a certified IJCSA-trained team offers numerous benefits. My employees will possess the expertise to assess carpet fibers and choose appropriate cleaning methods, resulting in optimal cleaning outcomes without risking damage. Their use of eco-friendly products will contribute to a safer indoor environment, reducing exposure to harmful chemicals. Furthermore, regular carpet cleaning by certified technicians enhances indoor air quality by removing dust, allergens, and pollutants trapped within carpet fibers. This not only promotes better health but also enhances the overall appearance of my business space, leaving a positive impression on visitors. Ultimately, investing in equipment and IJCSA training reflects my commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy, and professional environment for my business.

Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms in human blood that can cause serious diseases. The definition is broad but typically includes viruses and other infecctious agents

    • Understanding what constitutes a bloodborne pathogen helps in identifying risks and implementing appropriate safety measures.

    • It also clarifies the scope of what needs to be protected against, ensuring comprehensive safety protocols.

One of the most importasnt aspects of this course is the Preventive and Protective Measures

    1. Universal Precautions:

    • This principle is fundamental. It involves treating all blood and OPIM as if they are infectious, regardless of the source’s perceived health status.

    • This approach minimizes assumptions and ensures a consistent level of caution.

    2. Engineering Controls:

    3. Work Practice Controls:

    4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

    5. Training and Awareness:

    6. Hepatitis B Vaccination:

The definition of bloodborne pathogens is a cornerstone for establishing effective workplace safety protocols. Preventive and protective measures, like universal precautions, engineering controls, work practice controls, and PPE, form a comprehensive strategy to safeguard employees. These measures are effective because they address multiple points of potential exposure, from the environment and procedures to individual behavior and equipment use.

Overall, these measures reflect a layered approach to safety that ensures redundancy and maximizes protection for employees. This comprehensive approach is crucial in managing the risks associated with bloodborne pathogens effectively.

Carpet cleaning in high traffic areas can be difficult to manage. I plan on implementing a more frequent repeating work order for carpet cleaning at some of our facilities. As well as using some additional machinery for scrubbing and extraction. Using the methods in the video and training material I believe I can get the carpets cleaner then ever!

Some benefits of having your carpet cleaned more frequently include. Improved air quality, less odor, safer environment, better appearance and increasing the longevity of your carpets life cycle. With the knowledge found in this training IJCSA members can remove even the toughest stains and keep your carpets looking great.

This article is intended to outline the importance of employee training in the Short Term Rental (STR) / Airbnb janitorial vertical.  Cleaning vacation rental properties does indeed increase the likelihood of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

One common area to encounter bloodborne pathogens is linens.  Bed sheets contain many bodily fluids.  With STR turnover services, these fluids are recently transferred to the linens.  Medical grade rubber gloves are the most common way to protect oneself from viruses and bacteria contained in bedsheets.  It is also important to constantly be on the lookout for hypodermic needles.  Although I have never personally encountered any loose syringes, I follow and teach a basic practice of pulling the linens off the bed and shaking them to look for any unexpected items.  Similarly, cleaning couches should be done systemically and with a sense of caution.

Another common area to pay special attention to is bathrooms.  Used towels intrinsically contain bodily fluids.  Again, medical grade rubber gloves are a first line of defense.  Extreme care must be taken when servicing the trash cans in bathrooms, as these are the most likely place a hypodermic syringe would be discarded.  Thank you for reading, and I hope you find this information helpful.
