THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEANING EMPLOYEES AND STAFF KNOWING ABOJUT BLOODBOURNE PATHOGENS

10 Apr 2022 7:33 AM | Deleted user

It is extremely important for all cleaning staff and employees to know and understand what bloodborne pathogens are to prevent contracting diseases such as HBV or HIV/AIDS.  Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms in human blood (body fluids) that pass disease if exposed. There are several ways to become exposed, thru the mouth, nose, open cuts/wounds or puncture exposure.

Several methods of safety precautions can limit exposure, such as gloves, protective eyewear, hand washing, never reusing towels or sponges and disinfectant cleaners.  Disposing of all potentially hazard materials in proper containers (red or orange biohazard bags or sharps). All equipment used is to be sanitized after each use to ensure no cross contamination occurs.

If each employee or staff member follows OSHA procedure limited exposure or spreading of infectious diseases will be at a lower risk rate. All employees are required to have a written exposure control plan that is updated yearly for accidental exposure. If exposed, immediately notify employer and follow guidelines.
