Bloodborne Pathogen Precautions & Treatment for the Vacation Rental Industry

10 Jul 2022 12:40 PM | Deleted user

In the vacation rental industry, there may be a time when you will come across a bloodborne pathogen. Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include but are not limited to, Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) (associated with AIDS). Bloodborne pathogens are spread through direct contact (blood, bodily fluids), indirect contact (i.e. a needlestick), and respiratory droplet transmission (sneeze or cough).

Cleaning technicians must know where bloodborne pathogens may exist. Whether handling trash that contains used syringes, handling laundry soiled with blood, or cleaning up after a sick person it is important to always take precautions by assuming bodily fluids may contain a bloodborne pathogen.

Knowing and applying universal precautions can eliminate exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Cleaning technicians must know what to do if they encounter or have been exposed to a bloodborne pathogen. Proper disinfecting of bloodborne pathogens eliminates the exposure for future guests.

Bloodborne pathogen certification and company training will prepare you with the necessary tools and equipment to carry out your job successfully.
