It is very important to understand Bloodborne pathogens. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms that can cause disease in humans. They are found in human blood and other bodily fluids such as semen, vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, pleural fluid, peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and amniotic fluid. Cleaning employees and staff who come into contact with these fluids must be trained on how to handle them safely to prevent exposure.  

Employees of a cleaning companies need to assume that everything they clean contains pathogens and to take infection control prevention. Many workers in many occupations including first responders, housekeeping personnel, nurses and other healthcare personnel may be a risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The primary benefit of OSHA bloodborne pathogens training is the safety of our employees. Cleaning personnel are the first line of Defense against bloodborne pathogens.
