Implementation of a mold cleaning operation into my business can have many benefits. Proper surface treatment of a mold optimizes the mold’s performance, limits downtime, improves performance and increases production efficiency. A complete mold cleaning and surface treatment program includes a thorough cleaning of the mold, flushing the cooling channels, checking the cooling channels’ flow rates, performing a leak integrity check, coating the cavity, core, pins and slides for wear protection and coating the cooling channels to prevent scale, rust and leaks.

Plumbing leaks and water problems should be promptly fixed to prevent further mold damage. It is important to thoroughly dry the affected areas to prevent mold growth. For hard surfaces, scrubbing with detergent and water is recommended, followed by complete drying. However, absorbent or porous materials like ceiling tiles and carpet may need to be discarded as mold can be difficult to completely remove from these materials. To avoid exposure to mold, it is advised not to paint or caulk moldy surfaces. Prior to painting, ensure that the mold is cleaned up and the surfaces are thoroughly dried to prevent peeling of the paint. If unsure about cleaning methods, consulting a specialist is recommended. Areas prone to dampness, such as bathrooms, should be regularly cleaned and well-ventilated to reduce mold recurrence.

Mold prevention is crucial and can be achieved through effective moisture control. It is important to keep the building clean and dry, addressing any wet or damp areas within 48 hours. Leaky plumbing and building envelope leaks should be fixed as soon as possible. Condensation and wet spots should be monitored closely, with the sources of moisture problems being fixed promptly. To prevent moisture due to condensation, surface temperature can be increased through insulation or increased air circulation. Alternatively, the moisture level in the air can be reduced by repairing leaks and increasing ventilation or dehumidifying. HVAC drip pans should be kept clean and unobstructed. Appliances that generate moisture, such as dryers, should be vented to the outside whenever possible.   Maintaining low indoor humidity, ideally between 30 percent to 50 percent, is recommended. Regular building and HVAC inspections are also important for mold prevention. If you follow this program after the mold is taken out of service, or better yet, before a new mold is put into service, the mold will perform more efficiently and for a more extended period. There are many resources available to help you implement a mold cleaning program into your business. For example, the CDC provides advice on mold cleanup, control, and prevention.

In conclusion, there are several benefits to having a mold cleaning program. Mold is a living organism that grows in damp places in your business or home and can cause health problems for some people, including allergies, asthma attacks, and other respiratory issues. By having a mold cleaning program, you can prevent mold growth by keeping your home or office clean and dry, fixing water problems, and ensuring proper ventilation as soon as they’re noticed. In addition to the health benefits, a mold cleaning program can also help maintain the performance of your home by preventing moisture problems and mold growth. This includes fixing water problems immediately, cleaning up spills or floods within one day, drying all surfaces, and using a dehumidifier when necessary.
