Implementation of Medical Cleaning Practices Into Other Residential & Commercial Situations

24 Mar 2025 6:03 PM | Nicholas Simonton

The importance of medical cleaning practices is especially important in medical settings, it's a given that viruses and germs are all around us, however medical settings need special attention when it comes to cleaning. Many advancements have been made in cleaning the medical field, for example, many hospitals use UV lights to clean hospital rooms on top of the more traditional methods, UV lights have been shown to be effective disinfectant. These practices are extremely relevant to maintaining a clean and safe medical environment, since these particular environments have higher standards since they're taking care of patients.

We can even implement these standards into residential space cleaning, for example; disinfecting surfaces and door handles and high touchpoints, I'm not saying we should bombard houses with Lysol 24/7, but it's beneficial to raise standards to keep places outside of medical facilities clean just like medical facilities. If we raise standards outside medical facilities we can have even cleaner environments at work and at home and reduce transmission of viruses and germs.

When it comes to commercial environments, such as offices, restaurants, and supermarkets. We are talking about different locations but all these places have high traffic and lots of touchpoints. Many of these places also have customers and that requires additional care and attention. Increased disinfection of touch points is helpful, on top of improved ventilation of environments, we can take notes of what hospitals do and we can implement theses methods in our homes or businesses.

To reiterate what I said earlier, we all must take great care in how we care for facilities, even if they aren't medical in nature. We can all learn a great amount from how hospitals take care of their facilities and adapt those methods at many different places. We all owe it to staff, customers and even ourselves to create a clean and safe environment for us all to live and work in.
