importance of cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens.

03 Jun 2026 2:33 PM | Edward Martinez

It is essential that all supervisors, managers, owners, and employees understand and adhere to the universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens established by the CDC.  These precautions exist to reduce or eliminate the risk of being exposed to harmful and possibly fatal bloodborne pathogens.  By treating ALL blood and bodily fluids as potentially infectious, one removes doubt and confusion about cleaning protocols.

In the above paragraph I included supervisors, managers, and owners in the knowledge pool for safe cleaning protocols and practices.  This is because the supervisors, managers, and owners are responsible for developing the training materials and procedures to ensure the safety of the employees and others.  Additionally, since employees may reach out to a supervisor if they are unsure of how to safely and properly clean, disinfect, and sanitize areas, the supervisor must serve as an escalation point and a knowledge expert.

Ensuring a safe work environment, without accidents, is beneficial for all parties.  Employees remain safe.  Owners of cleaning services remain free from litigation, fines, and potential lawsuits.  Finally, customers can benefit from knowing that their facilities are decontaminated and cleaned properly for their customers to enjoy.
