Importance of knowing about BloodBorne Pathogens

26 Nov 2018 5:52 AM | Deleted user

Knowing about BloodBorne Pathogens and taking universal precautions to protect yourself against them can be the difference between life and death. Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause diseases in humans such as Hepatitis B (HPV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and Hepatitis C (HCV) just to name a few.

There are many diseases and illnesses that anyone working in the cleaning industry is exposed to on a daily basis. Always following Universal Precautions is a very important part of keeping safe while on the job. Wearing personal protective equipment such as vinyl gloves, eye goggles, and face masks are one of these protective practices that ensure safety.

Preventing or reducing contact with bloodborne pathogens for myself and others is the main goal. By properly educating and training each staff member on taking Universal Precautions at all times we can provide a safe environment for everyone. A written exposure control plan is also an important part of ensuring we are prepared for an emergency. Being informed and educated on the hazards of bloodborne pathogens and taking the necessary precautions to prevent any exposure to them is all the difference between being accidentally infected with a deadly disease while on the job or a fully safe and controlled work environment.
