The Importance of knowing about bloodborne pathogens

19 Nov 2018 8:28 AM | Jaladi Merriweather

Bloodborne pathogens are an imminent and very serious life or death risk for any profession, especially pertaining to the cleaning industry. With those factors stated, it is very imperative to learn important steps and measures to prevent possible exposure and contamination of such harmful substances. The very protocol your establishment takes can ultimately lead to protecting staff, consumers, and yourself from taking a gambling chance statistically with your safety.

There are several ways to protect yourself against bloodborne pathogens in the workplace. The first step, in my opinion, which I feel is most important, is observing. I think carefully assessing the areas for any potential threat is crucial. When observing, treat all is if infectious! Secondly, proper dressing and donning of personal protective gear (goggles, gloves, tongs, etc...) is key. Last, but certainly not least, is controlling the contaminated area/areas with proper containment, cleanup, and disposal techniques.

Eliminating the risk of infectious bloodborne pathogens, by taking preventative measures and techniques, is an effective way against possible exposure and contamination. Proper vaccination and also notifying supervisor and healthcare provider of possible exposure or contamination are prevalent. Following, OSHA  standards and other training protocols, provides your establishment, staff, and clients with a safe and healthy environment.
