When dealing with bloodborne pathogens I feel strongly that it is very important for all employees and staff to have the proper knowledge and know how of proper approach and handling procedures.  Without the proper knowledge and training could mean the difference between life and death.  With the proper staff training, knowledge, and company policies it will make a safe work environment for all Involved

Universal precaution is also very important for cleaning employees & staff to have the know how when it comes to bloodborne pathogens.  Some of us (myself being one of them) are in a cleaning field outside of the medical field.  Even if we were in the medical field, most of us can not tell if blood or bodily fluid is infected with a blood borne pathogen.  So it is best to approach and handle all objects and materials known to be contaminated with blood or harmful bodily fluids the same.  Bloodborne pathogen or no blood borne pathogen.  This approach and know how will make a safer work environment for all involved.

The last, and in my opinion the most important topic for employees & staff  to have the knowledge and know how about when dealing with blood borne pathogens is post exposure management.  How to handle situations where myself or another co-worker has been exposed to any type of blood borne pathogen is important for every ones health and safety.  Not knowing could cause disease or death.  I don't want to die, and I don't want my co-workers to die.  This is why I feel it is important for cleaning employees and staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens.  Knowing will keep our work place safer.
