Why Employees Should Know About Bloodborne Pathogens

31 Jul 2020 4:52 PM | Deleted user

The most important reason for staff and employees knowing about bloodborne pathogens is overall safety and prevention. It is important for employees and staff to be aware of what they may be exposed to and how to avoid contact and not spread disease. Although most medical staff will have a greater risk of exposure due to the presence of blood and other bodily fluids, cleaning staff in all settings should be aware of proper practices in the event of an accident where they themselves or a coworker may need assistance.

Decontamination of an affected area is key as well to contain and limit the spread of possible diseases. Making sure the staff is familiar with the proper personal protection equipment is important as well. Having designated areas and clear instructions will ensure a timely clean up and limit room for error in a fast-paced environment.

Immediately informing their superiors of contact is also very import to enforce among your staff.  Making sure they understand the severity of the illnesses they have encountered will hopefully inspire fast action in worst case scenarios.
