There are other steps you can take to avoid exposure to bloodborne pathogens such as never manually compress trash, never re-use towels or sponges, use properly labeled materials such as containers and or bags when disposing of or transporting materials that are contaminated with bloodborne pathogens including gloves, laundry, and equipment. When you're handling contaminated containers or bags use extreme caution and precautions to ensure safety. 

To conclude everything if you do come in direct contact with contaminated items, you need to immediately alert a supervisor and your Doctor/physician to seek correct treatment. Be alert and watch out for symptoms of HBV and HIV.
