its hard to imagine the challenges & dangers that constantly present in every medical facility. For those who visit & are treated by any health care professional & occupational employees working behind he scenes have no idea of the dangers which the occupational staff & employees face on every shift. Such as blood-borne pathogens, are pathogens (able to cause disease) microorganisms that are present in human blood & can cause diseases in humans. These pathogens include , but not limited to Hepatitis (liver tissue) B virus (HVP) & human immunodeficiency virus (associated with Aids). The dangers of these blood-borne pathogens present themselves when exposure occurs when the pathogens comes in contact with the employees mucus membrane such as the nose or throat or breaks in the skin like needle sticks or human bites or cuts & abrasions. Not to mention body fluid such as blood vomit & even saliva can contain blood -borne pathogens.
Hepatitis B or HBV is a type of liver disease that inflames the liver & leads to liver damage & sometimes even liver cancer. some of the symptoms of HBV are fatigue, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, jaundice, vomiting, diarrhea, light colored stool, dark urine.
With exposure to HIV it has the potential of developing AIDS or acquire immune deficiency syndrome. The symptoms that can e related are constant fatigue, sore throat, persistent fever, persistent rash of unknown origin, night sweats, persistent swollen glands, mild to severe flu like symptoms.
