Green cleaning refers the use of environmentally friendly and toxin free ingredients. When you clean green, you are choosing great products with the environment and health or yourself and surrounding people in mind. One of the greatest benefits is the reduction of health risks.

When you use chemicals to clean, you are risk getting irritations in body areas such as eye, nose, lungs, and throat. Certain cleaning chemicals have also been marked as carniogens, that cause cancer and other organ related problems. Switching to green cleaning avoids these scenarios all together.

Green cleaning products are also much better for the environment and ozone layer. They produce no gases or fumes that are hazordous and can break down into natural matter over time and even packaging can be biodegradable as well.

Cleaning in general drastically decreases the amount of dirt and germs in an environment. It also boosts morale and comfort while bringing a sense of organization and solemn for any time or endeavor. When you clean with products that are also good for the environment, for yourself, and are free of toxins, you are putting your health and well being (and others) first.

We all know custodians are at risk from exposure to bloodborne pathogens so even if you are not exposed to bodily fluids as a part of your job you need to be prepared because at some point their are chances that you will come in to contact with blood, vomit and other fluids.

It is very important to receive training and follow recommended guidelines for preventing the spread of BBP.

The simple and very important precaution after possible  BBP exposure is hand washing with soap under warm water for at least 15 second.

Bodily Fluids refer to liquids present inside the body of living humans which includes Blood, Saliva and Sweat, while Bloodborne Pathogens are micro organisms contained in the human blood that may cause life threatening diseases. These pathogens include, but are not limited to Hepatitis-B (HBV) and Human-Immunodeficiency (HIV) that causes Aids.

Cleaning occupations with reasonable exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and bodily fluids presents a risk to individuals that clean for a living. For example, an employee that handles beds sheets, trash, or clean up areas frequented by others may have exposure to bodily fluids and or pathogens which can enter the body through the nose and mouth or breaks in the skin.

Precautions should be taken to minimize exposure. The CDC "Universal Precaution" Approach states that all blood and Bodily fluids should be considered infections, so It is important for individuals with cleaning occupations follow a universal standards such as the OSHA "Bloodborne Standard" to protect themselves, contain infection, decontaminate affected areas, dispose of contaminates safely, disinfect tools/equipment and wash hands thoroughly. Follow all employer guidelines as it relates to safety and exposure and see and doctor if you believe you were exposed.
