The Benefits of Being Green Cleaning Certified for Your Company and Your Community

Becoming Green Cleaning Certified through the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA) is more than just a credential—it’s a powerful commitment to health, safety, and sustainability. For cleaning companies and individuals alike, obtaining green cleaning certification demonstrates a professional understanding of environmentally friendly cleaning practices, the use of non-toxic products, and a dedication to reducing harm to both people and the planet. Certification not only sets you apart in a competitive market but also builds trust with environmentally conscious clients who are actively seeking eco-friendly alternatives to traditional cleaning services.

One of the most impactful benefits of being green certified is the protection it offers to public health. Traditional cleaning chemicals often contain harsh ingredients that can lead to respiratory problems, skin irritation, or long-term health issues for building occupants and cleaning staff. By choosing certified green products and safe cleaning methods, you’re helping reduce exposure to these harmful substances—especially important in homes with children, elderly residents, or individuals with allergies or sensitivities. Green cleaning emphasizes the use of biodegradable, low-VOC (volatile organic compound) products and sustainable practices that enhance indoor air quality and overall well-being.

From a business perspective, green cleaning certification also positions your company as a forward-thinking, responsible service provider. Clients—particularly in schools, medical facilities, and environmentally responsible businesses—are increasingly prioritizing partnerships with green-certified vendors. Certification from IJCSA gives your business an edge by proving your team is trained in sustainable, science-based cleaning procedures. It also opens doors to new opportunities, including listings in the official IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory, where eco-minded consumers search for reputable green cleaning professionals.

Beyond business growth, becoming certified reflects a core value of stewardship—of protecting our environment from the damage caused by excessive chemical use, water waste, and poor disposal practices. By integrating green cleaning practices into your services, you're contributing to a cleaner, safer world. It’s not just about being competitive—it’s about being responsible. For cleaning professionals who take pride in their work and want to make a meaningful impact, Green Cleaning Certification through IJCSA is an investment in a healthier future—for your clients, your team, and the planet.

Implementing a mold cleaning program offers significant health, safety, and property protection benefits for both residential and commercial spaces. Mold, especially in hidden or damp areas, can lead to serious health issues such as respiratory problems, allergies, skin irritation, and even more severe conditions in individuals with weakened immune systems. A professional mold cleaning program focuses on identifying, containing, and properly removing mold using EPA-approved techniques and products. This not only improves indoor air quality but also creates a healthier living or working environment by reducing exposure to airborne mold spores and allergens.

Beyond health, a mold cleaning program helps protect the structural integrity of a property. Mold thrives in moisture-rich environments and can gradually weaken drywall, wood, insulation, and other building materials. By proactively addressing mold growth through regular inspections and thorough cleaning, property owners can prevent costly long-term damage. Additionally, offering mold remediation as part of a cleaning business can add value and trust, showing clients that you prioritize safety, cleanliness, and preventive care. It’s a smart, proactive investment for both the service provider and the customer.

Hello! My name is Stephanie Zambrano and I am a Co-Owner of Espino Cleaning Service based in Denver, CO. Down below I will explain  why I believe every person should only use natural green cleaning products.

As I was finishing my Green Cleaning Certification on IJCSA, I learned a lot about green cleaning and how it helps not only humans, but animals and the environment. Green cleaning is more than just a trend — it's a safer and smarter way to clean. Additionally, it makes you more of a responsible cleaner if you use natural products. By using natural and eco-friendly cleaning products, we reduce the amount of harsh chemicals that are toxic to enter our homes, schools, businesses, and the environment. Regular cleaners often contain harsh ingredients that can irritate the skin, lungs, and eyes, and long-term exposure may lead to serious health problems. These harsh chemicals have the risk of harming clients, while using green cleaning products avoid any allergy reactions, harm, and it creates a safer and fresh environment. Green cleaning products are made with products that are non-toxic, biodegradable ingredients that are safe for people, pets, and the planet, why wouldn't you want to use that instead?!

Every person plays a big role in keeping our communities safe, especially as a cleaner. If you choose to use natural green cleaning, that means you choose to protect yourself and others — especially children, the elderly, and those with allergies or asthma — from harmful fumes and chemical residues. Green cleaning also reduces indoor air pollution, making our homes and workplaces healthier places to live and work. According to the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA), switching to green cleaning can drastically improve indoor air quality and reduce sick days in workplaces!

Additionally from public health, green cleaning is very essential for protecting our environment. Harmful chemicals can by chance enter water systems, pollute the air, and damage ecosystems. As a person in the cleaning industry, our purpose is to avoid that.  Using natural cleaning methods, such as vinegar, baking soda, or plant-based products, are effective products that break down safely without causing any harm. When we choose eco-friendly cleaning methods, we choose to reduce waste, support sustainability, and take direct action to fight climate change and pollution.

If you’re ready to switch to a greener way of cleaning, visit the IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory to find certified cleaning services near you that follow safe, earth-friendly practices. Every small change we do as cleaners adds up, and together we can create a cleaner, healthier future for us all!

Green Cleaning is Important to not only humans but every living creature on the earth for several reasons. Espino Cleaning Service is happy to explain the importance of Green Cleaning in the following paragraphs:

Green cleaning is a way of cleaning that uses products to clean that are safe to use and safe for not only people, but animals and the environment as well. As compared to traditional cleaning, green cleaning does its best to avoid the usage of any harmful/strong chemicals that can harm the environment by polluting the air or water. Green Cleaning helps keep our planet much healthier for every living creature. It can help from tiny insects to large animals and humans - and especially the environment we all live in and has been harmed and affected by waste and strong chemicals. Using green cleaning products means we use fewer toxins in the environment, which means cleaner air to breathe and cleaner water to drink.

One big reason green cleaning is very important is because it helps protect wildlife and plants. Harsh chemicals from regular cleaning can be risked to get into rivers and lakes, hurting fish, sharks, and other aquatic life. Green cleaning uses natural ingredients such as vinegar or regular dish soap that break down safely without harming animals or their homes. Using natural ingredients also helps reduce allergies and health problems for people, making homes and workplaces safer for everyone. You prevent an allergy reaction to a child or a pet by using green cleaning products compared to heavy harsh chemicals.

If you want to find safe and effective green cleaning services, you can visit the Green Cleaning Service Directory. This directory helps you connect with companies that care about the environment and use eco-friendly cleaning products and methods. By choosing green cleaning, we all help protect the earth and create a cleaner, healthier future for all living creatures.
