A Cameron Parish cleaning crew made an unpleasant discovery today.
Sheriff Ron Johnson said one of his crews found a head in a plastic bag on the side of La. 27 in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge.
The head was decomposed, and identification of the victim has been turned over to the coroner, he said. Investigators believe it has been out there months, not years, but a final determination will be made by the coroner, he said.
Deputies searched the area, as well as the surrounding marsh, but no other body parts were found, he said.
We're following this story and will post additional details as they become available.
