Importance of Knowing about Bloodborne Pathogens

11 Sep 2020 5:14 PM | Deleted user

Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms which means, they’re invisible to the human eye. As a result, it is important to treat any blood or bodily fluid as if it is contaminated with the pathogen. It is imminent for cleaners to possess the knowledge in this area as we usually accompany public health defenders.

The aim is to limit or prevent the exposure to the pathogen while also making sure that the clients are safe from it too. Public health defenders can easily introduce the pathogen into their blood if not careful, e.g., an injection needle hidden in the sheets of the patient, not wearing proper PPE, could easily introduce these microorganisms into the personnel.

The reason this is so dangerous is because, these pathogens may take months/years to showcase any symptoms/clinical signs in the patient(s) which may be too late for the person to recover by then. Being properly trained in this area equips us with the knowledge that not only do we keep ourselves, but our clients safe from these bloodborne pathogens.
