Last week you began to feel sick.  You started feeling very fatigued and had a fever. You began to feel nauseous with a pain in your abdomen and even though you had no appetite you forced yourself to eat, only to vomit up your meal. Your urine was dark, too dark for all the fluids you were drinking and your stool looked gray like creek clay.  Something was wrong, really wrong.

You contacted your doctor, maybe they could get you into the office next week, but you explained your symptoms and suddenly there was a sense of urgency because they could see your right away.  After arriving at the office a battery of tests were given, blood was drawn. The doctor came in to see you, and like a detective solving a crime began questioning you about your symptoms. The doctor asks your occupation and you reply ‘Terminal Cleaning Specialist”.  The next question takes you off guard, have you had any contact with bloodborne pathogens?

Then you remember, two months ago, that even while gloved up, you had pushed down on trash marked biohazard and received a pin prick in your palm.  It was just a slight sting, but you thought nothing of it. You tell your doctor of this.  And his diagnosis makes you feel light headed and tingly in a bad way.  Your doctor thinks you have contracted Hepatitis B.  The doctor will put you on antivirals until the results return in 1 - 3 weeks.  If it comes back positive for HBV, there is a vaccine, but in the meanwhile you will continue to feel sick, even though the medicine should start to help. You're sent home to rest, no work until results come back…what will you do for income?

You thought you had followed all the right steps, this wasn't your first rodeo, you have been cleaning for years. You knew about Blood Borne Pathogens, micro-organisms that could make you sick. You had washed up, gloved up, masked up even put on those gowns and booties. But it was that one mistake of pushing down on the trash and that second mistake of not telling your supervisor.

Had you only remembered your training this wouldn’t be your reality.

There is no overemphasis on the need to keep a well uptodate precautionary measure against Bloodborne infections. Though today's health challenge is against the Covid-19 pandemic, Bloodborne infections are still plaquing lives. Being considered as microorganisms pathogenic in nature and present in human blood susceptible to causing infections.  With the number of homeless and overcrowding the few existing shelters in my city. i got interested in learning more about bloodborne pathogen control. There are reportedly high cases of addictions, fights and blood spills on the scenes, toilets and hallways. Cleaning should be done by well trained personnel applying universal precautionary measures. This is to ensure personnel and other users onsite from contaminations of bloodborne diseases like hepatitis B virus and HIV.  After this training i certify to be proficient in my practice in the cleaning business.

Sometimes we often forget how the chemicals we use harm our environment and the creatures who live in it. Green cleaning products protect have a positive impact on protecting the earth and providing a safe habitat for the creatures that live on it. Green cleaning products is another word for "natural products". These natural products are made from the earth and can be used to disinfect and sanitize our homes, facilities and more. The world should not suffer from us using hazardous chemical to clean.

Using green cleaning products are not only safe for the earth and its creatures, but it reduce health risks for the people that are using these products. Green cleaning products are environment friendly, affordable, and natural. Most people do not realize that when recycling we separately throw away bottles, cans, plastic and paper. However, are we really doing all we can to protect the earth and its creatures? What about the chemicals that we are using in our gardens, homes, cars and etc? Hazardous chemicals are destroying our environment and produce a high risk of health issues right under our nose.

Overall, it is important to use natural green cleaning products to provide a safe and healthy environment for our family, friends, community and earth itself.

My goal for my business is to implement a carpet cleaning program into my business. The benefits of having carpet or rugs cleaning implemented for certified IJCSA members will increase sells, increase productivity and allow my business to grow through all services. Having a carpet cleaning certification will promote more variety of services for current clients and protentional clients. Having certification will make more business more professional and trust worthy with the population i serve. There is definitely a high demand for carpet cleaning. Being a professional carpet cleaner will benefit me by being able to professionally inform my clients about potential health hazards when carpets are not being maintained.

In addition, dirty carpets can have a bigger impact on companies and their employees than people realize. Clean carpets attract more clients, decreases chances of damaged carpets, improves the image of a company and most importantly creates a welcoming environment.

I think implementing medical cleaning situations is  important in all work places. As I've stated before if you work in an office of 5 or 500 you can all carry in the same germs.

Think about this, walking in the office we all use the same door, our office is an office of 5, but all of us touch and use the same items such as sinks, kitchen items and bathrooms.

I think keep hand sanitizer in each open area will help eliminate the spread of viruses, disease and contamination. But people will have to be mindful of good handwashing practices as well.

I think that having the office hard surface areas sprayed down end of each day with a disinfectant is very important as well. And offering and type off PPE to any staff that is cleaning.

Understanding bloodborne pathogens and the potential risks involved when coming into contact with contaminated materials and utilizing universal precautions when placed into situations where you will be handling contaminated materials are all vitally important.

By following universal precautions, you are not only preventing yourself from contracting an infectious disease, you are also minimizing or eliminating the risk for your clients and their clients from contracting an infectious disease. Cleaning service staff removing a hazard safely keep all parties safe.

Following universal precautions to prevent bloodborne pathogen exposure includes, but is not limited to: using the proper PPE for the situation, knowing what sanitization methods to use, knowing how to contain soiled items, always washing your hands and having reporting requirements and protocol in place in case of possible exposure.
