Cleaning employees are essential, and perhaps more recognized now than ever before. However, that recognition comes with great responsibility. To deliver a complete service that decontaminates and at the same time ensures the safety of the staff and the ones at the facilities, it is imperative that staff is trained and that they understand the risks of not knowing. Cleaning employees, including management and the ones doing the work must understand bloodborne pathogens and how to reduce exposure.

Staff must be trained and understand protocols that will minimize any risk of infection, contamination and injuries come to an extreme high risk and not understanding it becomes a liability for the involved. OSHA provides the knowledge needed to stay safe and complete the job that follows the prescribed standards. This knowledge more than ever, is the key to contain spread of viruses and cleaning employees are in the front lines to reduce the spread.

Training staff and establishing protocols will ensure that people are safe and that the injuries reduce in the workplace. These protocols also make people accountable, it is hard or almost impossible to do a good job when there is no knowledge. People need to know what they are supposed to do and how to do it properly in order to stay safe. We must understand that our world has forever changed due to our new environmental challenges and the new awareness of contamination by people everywhere. Us, as the cleaning industry have a major responsibility to abide by these standards and keep contamination controlled.

Understanding the importance of safely identifying, handling and cleaning anything that may contain a bloodborne pathogen is extremely critical for any cleaning service or service provider.  OSHA, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration has developed a specific outline of training for all people working with these types of hazards.  These guidelines help not keep workers safe, but those that are in contact and around these types of hazards as well.

When considering how to handle these possible hazards, OSHA also recommends companies and/or cleaning service companies develop a plan for handling and training staff how to safely navigate these pathogens.  It is required for employers' to update these plans yearly and to also make them available to all.  Futhermore, employer's are also responsible for covering the cost of HPV vaccinations for any employee that may come in contact with BBPs.

In closing, as a cleaning service company, we stress the importance of cosidering these risks when consulting with clients.  We also recommend documentation procedures for the safety plan surrounding BBPs.  We believe this is a very necessary service as BPPs can transmit some very serious and potentially lethal pathogens.

For the majority of Cleaning Professionals out there, the last thing that comes to their mind is customer service. Cleaning companies and professionals are focused on the quality of the chemicals being used to clean a clients' home, facility, etc. Cleaning companies are very careful to not use cleaning materials that can be harmful for the client. Essentially, cleaning companies are focused on delivering the service requested, but don't realize how the Customer Service experience of the client is part of this process.

When a client hires a Cleaning/Janitorial business who is certified from IJCSA.ORG not only will the client have a cleaning company that is competent in the field, but will have the best customer service. The positive experience from working with one of our certified IJCSA cleaning companies is that they will provide individualized attention, consideration and time that the client needs.

As a cleaning professional throughout the years I have faced many challenges on carpet cleaning some of the biggest challenges I have faced are  spot removal , maintenance , and finding a trained carpet professional that can get the job done with the best results for my client . Although there are many carpet cleaning companies out there offering competitive rates has been my experience to feel a bit overwhelmed within the process . As a cleaning professional I am planning on implementing the knowledge that I have gained from taking this IJCSA Carpet Cleaning Certification into my cleaning company by implementing new procedures I have learned from taking the course I will be able to perfect spot removal techniques , provide better preventive measures of mistakes while cleaning , give knowledgeable advice of stain prevention , wear and tear prevention , as well as give better referral leads by recommending IJCSA Certified Carpet Cleaners to my clients .

As an employer I know it is important for myself and all employees to know the importance of bloodborne pathogens to keep all of us safe at work and at home. Bloodborne pathogens are always around us. They are easy to contract if you don't wear the proper PPE.

To always make sure we have the proper cleaning supplies and cleaning procedures to keep everyone safe. It is easy for pathogens to become airborne and stick to clothing and carry to the next room to clean or take them home with you. Not touching your face or anything else you use like your phone, food eat is very important while cleaning.

It is important that needles and other SHARPS are disposed of properly. When removing trash don't push down on it because you could make pathogens airborne and get poked by SHARPS and get in contact with bloodborne pathogens. It is important to be knowledgeable in all areas to keep everyone safe!

When you choose to use green cleaning products, you are making a vote to protect the environment so to speak. Most ideal green cleaning products are made using sustainable manufacturing practices and naturally derived, safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable ingredients that don't negatively impact the environment.

    YOU COULD SAVE MONEY.

Add some green to your pocketbook by making your own green cleaning products, or save money by buying eco-friendly all-purpose cleaners that do multiple jobs, so you won't have to purchase other products. With more and more manufacturers entering the green cleaning scene, natural products are often competitively priced with their conventional, chemical-laden counterparts, and, in some cases even cheaper.

    YOU CAN MAKE CLEANING EASIER.

It's much easier to have a few products that take care of your general cleaning needs than a whole arsenal of toxic products. For example, vinegar can easily replace mold and mildew removers, window cleaners, all-purpose cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, and more.

You can often tackle multiple cleaning jobs in your home without switching products as you clean. Plus, you don't have to worry about getting bleach stains on your clothes or accidentally mixing dangerous chemicals together as you clean when you go green.

Feel better with green cleaning products—literally. Unlike conventional cleaning products, you’ll know that what you’re using won’t harm you, your family, or your pets. Symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, skin rashes, headaches, and more may “mysteriously” disappear once you stop using toxic cleaning chemicals.

Considering many of the hazardous chemicals in conventional products are often carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, teratogens, or endocrine disrupters, it is definitely worth ditching them in favor of natural green cleaning products.

We at IJCSA have professional teams than can offer you green cleaning:
