With the prevalence of the current Covid-19 pandemic, as professionals we are obligated to understand the importance of safe best practices.  Bloodborne pathogens are serious concerns and we as business owners must ensure our teams have been educated in these areas so they can perform their jobs properly.

Utilizing PPE is a must especially when a spill contains body fluids, I advise my team to wear PPE regardless because you never can predict when the worst can happen.  Also, implementing an exposure control plan is vital as its important to have a set plan in place to ensure all necessary steps are taken in the event someone is exposed, gets a needlestick, etc.

By following OSHA mandated guidelines, having an educated workforce on the dangers of bloodborne pathogens will keep everyone safe while continuing to provide much needed services for our clientele.

What constitutes great customer service from a janitorial or cleaning company?

You may have experienced poor customer service if you never see someone from your janitorial or cleaning service provider unless they want to sell you more services. Perhaps they don't really seem to listen when you talk or the same complaints keep happening.

IJCSA Members understand providing great customer service starts from the moment we meet a prospect, by being friendly, caring and listening. Once a customer is welcomed, IJCSA Members continue with great customer service by making sure trash cans are back in place, chairs are pushed in and areas are tidied up. We check in on a regular basis just to say hi, ask how things are going and see if we can help with anything.

IJCSA Members will always put you first. Find your amazing Customer Service at JANITORIAL SERVICES DIRECTORY.

So yes it’s very important to clean your healthcare facilities very often , because your employees could be expose to viruses on surfaces or even infectious diseases or materials.OSHA an the CDC also requires a clean an sanitary work space with the proper PPE in reference with the bloodbourne and pathogens standard.

OSHA and the CDC Manuel states that Hepatitis B can live on surface up to one week through dried up blood, and also if the equipment is contaminated or not properly cleaned. So to make sure our patience or customers an employees are safe, our healthcare facilities must be kept clean by using disinfectants certified by the US Environmental Protection agencies as to help minimize or stop the spread of any infectious diseases or viruses.

It is crucial that cleaning companies know about the importance of bloodborne pathogens and being trained properly for that type of cleaning environment.  Bloodborne pathogens can cause diseases. You want to be very careful to protect yourself against this. There are many safety precautions you can take to keep yourself safe.

Some safety measures you can take are to always wear gloves, wash your hands after removing gloves, do not compress trash with your hand, disinfect anything that came into contact with an approved cleaner, and to assume that all fluid is contagious and to avoid contact with it.

Cleaning a medical facility is where this is most needed. There is a much higher likelihood of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens there, as opposed to other cleaning environments, such as a bank. If your staff are trained properly they will be able to clean any environment without worry of contamination.

Bloodborne pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include, but are not limited to, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Needlesticks and other sharps-related injuries may expose workers to bloodborne pathogens. Workers in many occupations, including first responders, housekeeping personnel in some industries, nurses and other healthcare personnel, all may be at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Therefore, it is important for all employers to inform their employees about the potential risk of coming in contact with bloodborne pathogens.  The best option is always prevention through education and providing the appropriate PPE to employees and encouraging them to follow these steps:

    • Use barrier protection at all times.
    • Use gloves for protection when working with or around blood and body fluids.
    • Change glove between patients.
    • Use glasses, goggles, masks, shields, and waterproof gowns/aprons to protect face from splashes.
    • Wash hands if contaminated and after removing gloves.

In order to reduce or eliminate the hazards of occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens, an employer must implement an exposure control plan for the worksite with details on employee protection measures. The plan must also describe how an employer will use engineering and work practice controls, personal protective clothing and equipment, employee training, medical surveillance, hepatitis B vaccinations, and other provisions.  This is important to keep all employees safe, healthy, and knowledgeable in the workplace when exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

As well as the buildings would not be able to facilitate properly.

Janitors and janitorial staff are the first line of defense when it comes to ensuring the spreading of germs and other illnesses are at a minimal.      The International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association offers a certification program that covers an extensive range of cleaning knowledge. Companies that have enrolled in this program have put in a lot of time studying to thoroughly understand the material. Certification is proof of their competency. Hiring a cleaning company that has completed certifications shows that they have a deeper understanding of the cleaning industry. With a deeper understanding, there is less likely to be a high amount of customer service complaints. The goal here is to be trained well enough in our field to eliminate the majority of problems from ever happening in the first place.

These companies have put forth the extra time and energy to complete these courses. It shows that they are willing to go above and beyond the bare minimum that is required of them. It is safe to say that if they are willing to do so in their training, they would be willing to do so with their customers as well.

On top of the rigorous cleaning certifications offered by the program, members also have the option to complete a customer service course. No matter how trained you at in your field of work, there will always be complaints from time to time, it is inevitable.  This will teach them how to put customers first and show the client that great customer service is a top priority.
