It is of utmost importance that one's janitorial staff understands the topic of bloodborne pathogens as this information is critical in eliminating one's exposure to sickness and in some cases, even death. I believe that the entire janitorial staff should receive in-depth training to understand OSHA's standard to handling bloodborne pathogens so that all staff members are aware of the seen and unseen dangers of coming into contact with someone else's blood, urine, and in some cases saliva.  By doing so, a staff member is able to make more informed and sensible decisions as to how  proceed while decontaminating and disinfecting exposed surfaces

In today's post pandemic environment,  creating a safe, clean, and healthy space should be the top priority of any responsible, commercial cleaning firm. In the same breath however, one must understand that in this particular profession, risks of exposure is heightened and can occur  by simply coming into contact with someone that has a bloodborne illness. The good news however, is that by understanding these potential risks, our staff can potentially eradicate incidents altogether.

With that being said, If there is any reason that exposure does occur, a responsible leader will ensure that there is a written control and exposure plan in place.

Removing trash, bed linens, or even cleaning up spills all have specific protocol that staff should know to follow to ensure personal safety. Easily protecting yourself by using PPE, color coding or labeling laundry, never manually compressing trash, disposing of exposed gloves, disinfecting cleaning equipment, washing hands, utilizing red and orange waste bags, watching for symptoms, and reporting any incidents to your supervisor are all critical pieces in eliminating direct exposure to bloodborne pathogens.  Ensuring that our staff returns home to their loved ones, healthy and safe continues to be our leadership team's top priority.

The top importance at any job is safety. Following the proper protocols and procedures when it comes to contaminated areas that involve bloodborne pathogens is a must for the safety of everyone involved. The mishandling of the clean up may cause illness including HBV or HIV.

Along with the proper training on how to handle the disinfected areas caused by blood borne pathogens also include wearing the correct PPE and the use of the correct disinfectant. PPE may include safety glasses, gloves, full body apron & shoe covers.Disinfectant may include the use of Betco cleaning products.

All items that are used for the clean up of any liquids must be treated as contaminated and exposed properly. Color coding items such as rags, bags and sponges are a great way to keep track of what item were used for what type of clean up.

Blood Borne pathogen and needlestick protocol is so very important for myself and my employees to know; because we can't assume that the staff member of the medical facilities that we service are always on their "A Game"

I had an incident in 2022 where one of my employees was cleaning a lab; during trash service, he was pricked by a needle that was improperly disposed of in the regular trash.  So, I would add that trash bags should be inspected while doing trash service to ensure that there are no needles sticking out of the trash bag along with not pushing down on trash.

This education is so very valuable as it helps raise awareness while providing us with information that enables us to put protocols in place to address communication, policy, and procedures.

It is important for workers of a company to know about bloodborne pathogens, since it poses a risk to everyone who works. Through blood there can be viruses and many other pathogens that can harm the human body. HIV and HBV are common forms of what a bloodborne pathogen is.Everyone should know that a bloodborne pathogen can be deadly to a person and it could weaken their immune system.

If a person knows about the dangers of bloodborne pathogens it could save someones life. It is better to be safe than to be sorry when it comes to these kinds of things. In most cases bloodborne pathogens can mostly be found in a hospital setting. However there are multiple occasions where blood can be even in public bathrooms or public places. The best way to go about things is to use pathogen safety.

We must remain focused and safety is number one for everyone in the workplace. Practice safe practices and no one will become infected with a deadly virus or pathogen.

I plan to implement a carpet cleaning program to my business because Its a good way to add more experince into your business and do more stuff to help out the customers with their needs. Its also a good way to bring in more business because some customers or clients that you deal with might have carpets and they might have pets or children that might mess up the carpet and you could tell them about how you could help them by cleaning their carpets or what deals you might have that could be affordable to them.

Putting a carpet cleaning program into you business could bring in more clients to your business. There might not be alot of carpet cleaning business around your area and its good way to bring in more business because you never know who might need their carpet cleaned or if you sell products to help clients keep their carpet clean at a reasonable price.

Its also a good learning experince to have if choose to go that career pathway because you need to know how to clean certain carpets and what chemicals you need to use for certain carpets.

Customer service is important in the Janitoral/Custdoial bussiness because it helps you get along better with a client or anywhere you work. It helps you if they have a problem and you could try to help them with their problem with great customer service.Always greet the client when they go up to you and ask if they have any problems that you could help them with always smile and have good eye contact with them so they know that they are being heard with their problem.

After hearing the client with their problem create solutions on how you could help them and empathize the client so they know that you are trying to help them with whatever they needed.Create solutions that they will like and make sure they understand what you are gonna do to help them and to see if they are ok with the solutions you came up.Once all that is done and everything is settle follow up with the client so they know that you care for them and their problem. You could follow up with them with a phone call, email, or send them coupons or deals that you have to make them feel better. If you do that they would feel appreciated and they could bring in more business to you job by telling their friends, family, or coworkers of ho good cutomer service they recieved.

It should be a priority to keep staff informed and aware of potential hazards in any situation especially when there are risks involved such as bloodborne pathogens.  Taking precautions should be a number 1 priority.

Employers are responsible for the safety of staff and making sure materials are handled correctly and disposed of properly. This effects everyones safety and keeps risk of exposure down to a minimum.

If Osha standard practices are implemented risk of exposure will be minimized.  If exposure does happen it is the employers responsibility to follow guidelines and keep records for 3 years .
