The importance of cleaning employees & staff knowing about bloodborne pathogens

01 Jan 2023 2:00 PM | Patrick Nichols

It is critical for cleaning employees and staff to know about bloodborne pathogens to ensure the safety and well-being of themselves and anyone else who can potentially become exposed to contamination from bloodborne pathogens. Staff having this knowledge can help to ensure their personal safety, the safety of others by eliminating the spread of contaminants, and maintaining awareness of the signs of potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

Employees having the proper awareness of potential bloodborne pathogens and how to handle situations of potential exposure will be better educated and equipped on the proper steps to take to minimize and potentially eliminate the threat of hazardous exposure. Knowing how to recognize bloodborne pathogens, how to properly clean and dispose of them, and how to keep safe with the proper use of sanitizing agents and PPE will decrease if not eliminate the potential health and safety risks of exposure.

Along with employees keeping themselves safe from the hazards of exposure to bloodborne pathogens, having knowledge of them will also allow them to effectively stop the spread of these contaminants. Knowing how to properly sanitize and dis-infect contaminated materials and surfaces, and to properly and safely organize and dispose of  them will greatly decrease the possibility of these contaminants being spread.

Along with having a working knowledge of the potential risks of bloodborne pathogens and how to handle them once they have been identified, employees having this knowledge will keep these potential issues at the forefront of each employee's mindset. They will be more likely to engage in all cleaning and working functions in a cautious manner which will allow them to recognize these hazards before it is too late to avoid risk.

In conclusion, cleaning employees and staff having knowledge of bloodborne pathogens will help to ensure the safety and well-being of anyone who may potentially be at risk of exposure.
