19 Apr 2020 7:25 PM | Kevin Mullins

Education is key to protect against bloodborne, viruses and bacterias, we must know how to handle potential hazardous materials & ensure that we are protecting our health and our employees health.

Everyone that is working in contact with not just the medical facilities but every industry should have an understanding of how to handle bloodborne pathogens to avoid getting infected and sick.

Today we live unprecedented times, Viruses, diseases and bacterias are always a real threat to ourselves, our love ones, neighbors, and communities. It is critical for professionals to understand how to protect themselves and others.

The short video allowed us to understand that it is clearly important to not only know how to wear protective equipment such as gloves and goggles. But also to know the importance of having a plan in place. A plan on how to act in a situation that can potentially put us in contact with body fluids or pathogens.

We must understand that in today's daily activities can  all be at risk, therefore we must understand not only that we must wear (PPe) but how to properly use it and dispose it after the use is completed. How to handle the waste and how to properly bag anything that contains contaminated trash. How to clean and sanitize is also key, as blood borne, body fluids, Viruses, Bacterias can live on surfaces and other materials.

The Video above spoke about blood borne pathogens such as HPV, HIV,AIDS Which clearly were the things people worried the most back when the video was created, However we cannot forget that in today's day it's not just limited to those viruses.

Today many live with the fear of a Novel Viruses such as Covid -19. Therefore Cleaning and personal hygiene must be essential. Sanitizing in our fields shouldn't just be a subject of one day, but an ongoing subject. Cleaning its not just limited to our clients and work places, Cleaning should be a lifestyle to maintain a healthy life every day. We must fight the threat by doing the following:

* Educating ourselves and our employees.

* Creating an action plan. (What to do plan)

* Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

* Learning how to properly clean and sanitize.

* Treating every situation as a potential risk.

* Learning about which products to use and how to use them.

* Learning how to properly dispose all infected materials.

* Cleaning all equipment before and after using it.

* Washing our hands after completing the work.

* Supervisors and employees should have Records of potential threats.
