Green cleaning has been gaining momentum now for some time. Most businesses have in one way, shape, or form started to use green cleaning. Our company hasn't fully implemented a green cleaning schedule yet but we plan too. We personally use green cleaning methods in our homes when applicable but haven't expanded the use into the commercial janitorial.

The use of green cleaning has amazing benefits for both the client and the cleaner. The average home has around 10 gallons of hazardous cleaning chemicals. With the use of green cleaning we can drastically cut that number down along with increasing health benefits for all people involved.

Cleaning Services should focus on making the right impression (sanitizing and disinfecting was accomplished effectively in the workplace (hospital settings) residence or business). The goal is to protect the population both workers and occupants alike from harmful germs, bacteria, and viruses that cause illness and disease.

One of the most important implemented cleaning practices is using and caring for the right equipment for your tasks in cleaning.Whether it's in healthcare, residential or commercial areas of course you will need the essentials:

Mop and bucket, dustpan and brush, caddy or a cart, large and small bags, .

PPE (personal protective equipment) gloves ,masks, eye protection,.

All of these are the basics and most common in any place be it hospital, residential or commercial. The more a place has to do with hygeine stricter rules and practices have to take place. Germs and bacteria are sought out more effectively in hospitals by use of UV lighting in the dark to find and get rid of. Samples are taken to measure how much bacteria and germs are in areas.

Proper tool and use of equipment is needed for good medical cleaning practices and

1)implementation of rules against exposure(***Exposure Control Plan), and against

    2)***Bloodborne pathogens ----

look up the definitions for these and be sure to look up  the Janitorial Cleaning Directory for info on where to find Cleaning equipment and PPE.

Janitors, often referred to as custodial workers or cleaners, are the unsung heroes of our daily lives. These hardworking individuals play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of various spaces, ranging from offices and schools to hospitals and public buildings. Despite often working behind the scenes, janitors are indispensable contributors to our communities and have a significant impact on our daily lives.

First and foremost, janitors ensure that our surroundings are clean and hygienic. They meticulously clean and sanitize surfaces, floors, and restrooms, helping to prevent the spread of germs and diseases. Their diligent efforts help create a healthy environment for employees, students, patients, and visitors, contributing to overall well-being and productivity.

In addition to cleanliness, janitors also play a critical role in maintaining the safety of our spaces. They are responsible for identifying and addressing potential hazards, such as wet floors, broken fixtures, or malfunctioning equipment, to prevent accidents and injuries. By promptly addressing these issues, janitors help create a safe environment for everyone, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring the well-being of those who utilize these spaces.

Furthermore, janitors are essential for the proper functioning of various facilities. They perform routine maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, and fixing minor repairs, to keep buildings in good condition. Their proactive approach to maintenance helps prevent major issues from arising and ensures that facilities are in optimal working order. This, in turn, helps organizations avoid costly repairs and disruptions to their operations.

Last but not least, janitors also contribute to the overall aesthetics and appearance of our surroundings. They ensure that spaces are tidy, presentable, and welcoming, creating a positive impression for employees, clients, and visitors alike. Their attention to detail and dedication to maintaining a clean and attractive environment help enhance the overall image and reputation of facilities, reflecting positively on the organizations that utilize these spaces.

In conclusion, janitors are invaluable contributors to our daily lives. Their hard work, dedication, and attention to detail ensure that our spaces are clean, safe, well-maintained, and aesthetically pleasing. Despite often being unsung heroes, janitors play a vital role in creating a conducive environment for work, education, healthcare, and other activities. It is important to recognize and appreciate the significant contributions of janitors to our communities and express gratitude for their essential services

Cleaning practices that are used in a healthcare facility can be implemented in other practices outside of a medical setting. Cleaning procedures are similar, in that high touch surfaces will still need to be disinfected, such as door knobs and light switches.

Residential cleaning is done in homes. It is important to slow down the spread of infection in the home between family members. It will also help to limit the infection to the guests that come into their homes.

Commercial cleaning is done in businesses. It is important to stop the spread of infection in the work environment amongst coworkers.  Lowering infection rates will lessen the effects of people calling in sick for work, which will result in more productivity, and to avoid taking illnesses home to their loves ones.

It is vital to try to stop the spread of illnesses in all environments. Everyone has a responsibility to keep their personal space clean, and next their place of business. If everyone would work together, there would be a lot less sick people in the world will be a much healthier place for everyone to live in.

Being green cleaning certified will help my cleaning company in many ways. I am looking to do any kind of training that might help set me apart from my local competition.  None of my competitors are advertising that they do green cleaning, so I plan to market this training in the future.

My employees will be healthier. They will not be breathing in harmful chemicals all day doing their job. This might result in lower medical costs. They will be able to spend more years with their loved ones. Their quality of life will just overall be better, if they feel better.

My clients will also be healthier. The same effects that cleaning chemicals have on my employees applies to my clients, who spend a lot of their time in the environment in which we cleaned. If my clients are healthier they will spend less time sick and missing work, increasing productivity levels.

I am doing my part to make the earth a better place for everyone to live. Green cleaning is important as we are putting less trash into the landfills. We are also using cleaning products that are made from more natural ingredients.

Using chemicals to clean can be very damaging to your health. There are much better alternatives on the market. You can even make your own cleaning supplies from all natural ingredients that are much better for your health and the environment. I love the smell of natural cleaners, much more than commercial ones. Sometimes they seem to almost take my breath away.

There are many chemicals used to clean that are bad for you. Most people don’t think about the chemicals they are breathing in and touching their skin. Children are especially at risk because they may not even know that it is a cleaning product. A small child could see a bottle of Pine Sol on the counter and think it is apple juice. It is very important to keep cleaning chemicals out of the reach of young children.

The cleaning chemicals can cause problems for your lungs. You need to clean in a well ventilated area. Open as many doors and windows as you can. Clean things outside, if that is an option. Some common side effects are problems like ashma, coughing, and having trouble breathing. An example of a cleaner that is terrible for your lungs is to mix bleach and ammonia. It can cause chronic breathing problems, and in some cases even death. Studies have shown that people that use chemicals to clean with every day, specifically professional cleaners, have a rapid decline in lung function.

Some chemicals can be very damaging to the eyes. Injury could occur such as burning, watery eyes, redness, pain, blurred vision, or even blindness.  Make sure to always wear eye protection when you are cleaning. Damage to the eyes can occur in as little as a few minutes. If you get a chemical in your eye, flush thoroughly with water immediately.

Your skin is your largest organ. People think that since they are not drinking the chemicals that their body is not taking it in. In fact it is. It is very important to wear gloves anytime you are working with chemicals, and probably a good idea to wear long sleeves as well, especially with oven cleaner for example, which can cause chemical burns. Some common side effects of cleaning chemicals on the skin are rashes, redness, dryness, chemical burns, and sometimes even a permanent loss of skin color.

Situations where you can implement medical cleaning practices into your residential and commercial cleaning.

No matter if you are cleaning a house or cleaning a business. If or when you spot blood or other possibly infectious materials (OPIM) use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Then clean as if you were cleaning a medical facility and always practice good hand hygiene.

When you wipe or disenfect surfaces use practices used for cleaning medical facilities. For instance, fold your rag so you can use eight sides. Wipe high touch surfaces flipping your rag to a clean side when appropriate so you don't cross contaminate.

Another practice to implement into your residential or commercial cleaning is best mopping practices. We should always mop bathrooms last. If you use a string mop and bucket be sure to change water when it gets dirty or every 360 square feet for 3 gallons. Mop up to 30 square feet flip mop then mop another 30 square feet then rinse. If you're using a flat mop, mop up to 120 square feet per pad, always mopping the bathroom last. We mop bathrooms with a separate pad. 1 mop pad 1 bathroom still observing the 120 square feet rule.

While collecting trash whether from a residence or an office building, you should never push down on the trash. Why is this dangerous? Trash can contain sharps or OPIM, examples include but not limited to needles, scalpels, scissors, knives also blood and in some cases vomit. When pushing down on trash you can poke or cut yourself, you could use something to push the trash down, But what if it contains OPIM. When you push down even with an object it can express a mist of OPIM. You could inhale this material or have it enter into your mouth, eyes or nose.

Know your disinfectant, read the label carefully. Some disinfectants require a rinse some don't, but all have a dwell time. This is how long a surface must remain wet with that disinfectant. NOTE: A 10 min. Dell time disinfectant will require an average of 5-6 applications to keep it wet for the dwell time.

Implementing these practices can help protect us  loved ones and the population by reducing the spread of harmful germs, viruses and bacteria.

You can find a provider who will implement these practices into your residential or commercial place. Use the handy link Janitorial SERVICES DIRECTORY
