Am I cleaning or hurting my environment with the cleaning products that we use every day? Most of the traditional cleaning products that we use every day are harmful to our health and the environment due to the chemicals they are made with.

The most common in daily use is chlorine, Sulfuric acid, Ammonia, and Alkylphenol ethoxylates just to mention some of them. These chemicals harm our health in different aspects, some are irritating to the skin, others when we breathe them.

An example is the common glass cleaner or mirrors, some contain Isopropyl alcohol that can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, and throat, and Ammonia which is also an eye irritant and the skin that causes coughing, short breathing and wheezing.

All women like to clean the kitchen with chlorine to kill all germs and disinfect very well to keep the family very healthy, but chlorine is one of the most deadly chemicals since ancient times. But when you smell it for a few minutes it gives you headaches and throat irritation.

For years we have used these products that damage our health, our mood, our environment day by day without knowing that they are the cause.

We can change all this if we clean every day with natural products that do not harm our health or our environment such as vinegar, sodium carbonate, borax, just to mention a few.

Vinegar and water are used to clean and disinfect most surfaces. Baking soda is a very good odor controller just like borax.

When we purchase commercial cleaning products we use a wide range of soaps, detergents, softeners, polishes, bleach and different scents to keep our homes clean and smelling nice. While these products may make our homes look clean, there are many hidden dangers that lurk behind the smell of 'fresh linen' and 'lemon zest' that contribute to our pollution indoors.

These products are poisonous if swallowed and harmful if touched or inhaled which can be a very toxic environment when living with children and pets and accidents may occur. In 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls. Of these calls, 120,434 exposures involved children under the age of six.

Cleaning products have variations of ingredients which pose different types of health hazards. Some cause watery eyes, skin or respiratory irritation in asthma sufferers or others with allergies, chemical burns or others that are linked to long-term effects such as cancer. When using green cleaning products, you'll know that what you're using to clean your home won't harm your family or pets. Illnesses that were once present such as coughing, skin rashes, sneezing, headaches and more may disappear once green products are used within the home.

When you choose to use green cleaning products, you are choosing to help protect the environment in some way. Most green cleaning products are made using sustainable manufacturing practices and naturally derived, safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable ingredients that don't negatively impact the environment. It is also easier and more cost effective to have natural ingredients on hand to take care of your general cleaning. Vinegar could replace window cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, mold and mildew removers and all-purpose cleaners. Baking soda is also a great natural cleaning agent used to remove bad odour from carpets, clean stovetops and many other uses.

One of the best benefits of making the switch to green cleaning products is the items in your home tend to last much longer. This is because traditional cleaning products are full of all kinds of toxic chemicals which aren’t sustainable and do not result in long-lasting effects. These types of harsh chemicals tend to negatively affect the texture and life of most household items. With green cleaning products, you are maintaining the longevity of your belongings without the smell of bleach or ammonia left behind. With the research we have today, it would be a wise move to switch to a green cleaning service and protect your health and the environment by finding a Green Cleaning Service here

IJCSA's Green Cleaning Directory is an excellent resource for anyone concerned with the harmful short and long term effects of traditional cleaning chemicals.

Even areas with heavy traffic can now be cleaned without such chemicals.

To complicate things further, as reported in the Environmental Working Group's "Cleaners Hall of Shame" report, only 7% of cleaning solutions even adequately disclose their own ingredients. That means in addition to the known concerns there is no way to tell what other issues they may be causing.

Chemicals in standard cleaners have been found to irritate the skin, causing rashes and even chemical burns. Contact with the eyes can be devastating.

Others are harmful even when not touched directly. The study found that 53% of all cleaners tested contained lung-harming ingredients and carcinogens.

Natural and eco-friendly alternatives have been shown to perform as good or better under most circumstances, making the choice to go green an easy one for most conscientious companies and facilities.

Did you know that cleaning products are largely unregulated with around 70% of conventional cleaning products containing harsh chemicals unapproved by the EPA? It’s no wonder more and more people are turning to Eco-friendly cleaning products and cleaning services.

Studies have shown that using a household cleaning spray even just once a week in your home or office raises the risk of developing asthma. There are many cleaning service companies that are committed to keeping their staff, their clients and the environment healthier and safer by implementing Green Cleaning Practices.

Your health and your family’s is the most important thing to all of us in the green cleaning industry. The International Janitorial Cleaning Service Association (IJCSA) has compiled a list of their members who are Green Cleaning Service providers in your area.
