Properly cleaning a contaminated area will avoid further cross contamination. The purpose is to mitigate the current event and area contaminated. Avoiding cross contamination will reduce the risk to employees and others who come into the contaminated area after the cleaning is completed. Proper cleaning will also assist in reducing the amount of time an area requires to be contained and cleaned.

Training employees about the risk of bloodborne pathogens will educate an employee of the seriousness of the situation. An employee with no prior knowledge of the potential risks associated with bloodborne pathogens will allow for error and potential health risk to the employee and those that come into contact with the area. A well trained employee will properly clean the area and take the correct steps to clean and dispose of contaminated materials. Also, it allows for an employee to understand what to avoid and what precautions to take.

Proper cleaning comes from proper training! It's that simple. The more an employee is trained, the more the chance for error is diminished. Training should be an ongoing practice that benefits the company and the servicing public. The industry is ever changing and health risks are different in every setting, the more knowledge one has, the better the service.

Using everyday cleaning chemicals can cause many harmful effects versus using natural green products. The effects of everyday cleaning chemicals can negatively affect your client, their belongings, and the environment. Using natural green products and cleaning is a great alternative to using the harsher chemicals, you can get the clean that you want without the toxic/harmful effects.

One of my biggest pet peeves with cleaning chemicals is the SMELL. I do not like coming home to my house smelling like bleach or ammonia. These products can cause skin irritation, burning eyes, and it can be dangerous to inhale if too much is used. Safety is another issue if you have smaller kids, chemical poisoning could be another potential hazard.

Green cleaners can expand the lifespan of your belongings. These echo friendly ingredients can be safely used daily without damaging your surfaces.  Everyday cleaners can affect the texture of your surfaces over time due to the different toxic chemicals being used.

Green Cleaning is a healthier alternative for the environment than using the traditional everyday cleaners. When you use the everyday cleaning chemicals, the toxic fumes are released into the atmosphere and we (you and I) are breathing that in. Green cleaning will overall improve your indoor air quality.

As you can see, using everyday cleaning chemicals can be very harmful.  Green cleaning is overall safer, smells better, is better for your surfaces in your home, and healthier on the environment. It is very imperative that all employees understand the importance of dealing with Bloodborne Pathogens, as it is a matter of life or death. Employees must understand that all bodily fluids must be treated and considered potentially infectious.

Employees must wear gloves at all times and wash their hands thoroughly immediately after removing their gloves to prevent contact with Bloodborne Pathogens.

Bloodborne Pathogens occur via nose, mouth and/or breaks in skin; which is why it is very imperative to not eat, smoke or drink in areas where there's a possibility of Bloodborne Pathogen exposure.

We as employers and cleaning technicians will likely be exposed to this virus at some point. Whether it be in passing on the street or in full Haz Mat Gear, we still need to be cognizant of our responsibilities.

Remember simple hygiene; wash your hands with soap, use a paper towel to open doors, keep your hands out of your mouth and for Godsake's don't cough or sneeze in someone's space. If you are exposed without PPE; self quarantine, monitor your health for symptoms, follow the Social Distancing Rules and don't panic. You/ we will survive.

There are many benefits to bloodborne pathogen training. One being with the proper training, you can prevent loss of labor do to unnecessary exposure. When your staff is properly trained they are aware of how they should proceed to not only protect themselves but also the customers they serve.

The  other key feature stressed in the training is that all body fluids should be treated with the universal precaution "all body fluids are dangerous". By using this standard your employee should not make the mistake of thinking that certain body fluids carry more dangerous than others. It can not be stressed enough that when ever you are dealing with someone else body fluid please use your PPEs and follow all the instruction provided to keep you and everyone else safe.

In conclusion the importance of properly training your employees cannot be stressed enough. it will cut down their risk of being exposed, it also help prevent unwanted labor loss because of exposure and the spread of bloodborne pathogens within your facilities.
