According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 1,4-dioxane is a probable carcinogen. The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission states that “the presence of 1,4-dioxane, even as a trace contaminant, is cause for concern.”3 1,4-dioxane is a byproduct of a chemical processing technique called ethoxylation in which cosmetic ingredients are processed with ethylene oxide. Manufacturers can easily remove the toxic byproduct, but are not required by law to do so.
Would you deliberately clean a tub with a product that has formaldehyde in it, then fill the tub with nice warm water to bathe your two year old child? How about the newborn baby? I wouldn't! Apparently, that is what most unsuspecting people are doing each time that they use a foaming bath tub cleaner. I
t hits me closer to home than you think. I'm referring to purchasing and using products that harm or kill you slowly over time that manufacturers market knowing that their products cause the very people that they target to sell their products to.
I've been diabetic since 1997 and since 2000 I have used the sugar substitute Splenda not knowing that it causes liver and kidney failure until I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure October 5, 2015. A well-known product for it's incredible taste but yet all the people I know, only a very small handful knew about the harmful side effects. All you have to do is Google, "Splenda side effects." They are appalled. So now, I'm all about green cleaning and products. My husband tells people I research everything I'm given now.
That's why I was so surprised and amazed by the article I read about the foaming bath tub cleaning solutions. It turns different colors when it's time to wipe off! It's so easy you just spray it on and wait a few minutes before wiping it off! How many of you have heard that and been attracted to it at some point in time? I know I was a big fan of them because it seems so effortless to clean. Who wants to kill their back while bending over and scrubbing with a brush or cloth? But do you really know how you are poisoning your family and your pets (if you bathe your dog in the tub)? In my opinion, people need to read their labels more closely and pay attention before it is too late. Don't serve death to your family on a plate so to speak.
The FDA to this very day still supports the investors' studies and reports, short-term at that, on Splenda saying that all the studies and reports show it to be a safe product. I'm living proof that the FDA doesn't do enough to protect their own country by eliminating the products that contain harmful chemicals and produce disastrous health effects. It's up to you the consumer to look out for those around you, your loved ones, and yourself.
