The benefits of having a green cleaning program.

If you haven’t yet put into effect a green cleaning program at your establishment, now is the time. Not only does it make the environment safer for employees and your establishment’s visitors, it can lead to a reduction in facility costs.

Green products must meet standards for inhalation toxicity, combustibility, and absorption through the skin. Meaning… green products are safer, decreasing the likelihood of worker complaints and chronic illness, and creating a happier work environment, increased attendance and better productivity.

    More Green cleaning benefits:

    ·         Healthier Environment (No longer breathing cleaners lingering in the air or sitting on furniture, reduces exposure to toxic chemicals)

    ·         Reduce Pollution (Ozone depletion has fewer smog-producing chemicals, recyclable packaging minimizes waste, lowers environmental impact)

    ·         More Affordable (Green cleaning is much more affordable than conventional cleaning products)

    ·         Reduces chemical consumption and the number of cleaning products needed

    ·         Promotes better inventory management of chemicals and equipment, resulting in more efficient and better-planned procurement of goods

In an effort to improve indoor air quality and avoid any cleaning agents that could negatively affect facility occupants and the environment, it’s important to make a commitment to green cleaning.

They may be under your kitchen sink, under your bathroom sink, or may be even sitting on the counter tops in your kitchen near your food because for all you know, it's perfectly safe.  But is it?

If you take a look at the back of a particular household cleanser it will more than likely read...Hazards to Humans or Domestic Animals. You may even see in all caps:  CAUTION and the number to the Poison Control Center.

According to Share Guide, a holistic health magazine, chemical levels can be up to 70 times higher inside our homes than out; and over 100 chemicals that are commonly found in the home have been linked to allergies, birth defects, headaches, depression and even cancer!  There has to be a better alternative.  There is.

Go green.  Exactly what is this? Green cleaning products contain organic ingredients that do not harm the environment or cause a threat to human health and the products are also biodegradable.  Going green means no more chemicals inhaled or absorbed into the skin.  Going green means improved health, environment and can even be less expensive because some products can be made in the comfort of your own home.

So how do you know if you're buying a green cleaner?  There are no warning signs like CAUTION, or DANGER.  The product will not list a fragrance as an ingredient. The cleaner will not advise you to rinse with water after cleaning a surface that comes in contact with food.  And do not forget to look for an Eco-label.

For years, the cleaning industry has promoted products that are harmful to us.  Products that contain chemicals which inhibit our quality of life.  Most times we are unaware of the effect these products have on our lives.  To combat these effects, use green cleaning products.

Everyday cleaning products that contain chemicals such as Alcohol Isopropyl (also known as rubbing alcohol), ammonia, benzene, chlorine, and dioxane.  These chemicals are dangerous and can have lasting effects on the users, their families and their employees.  Alcohol Isopropyl has been shown to cause reduce memory and concentration, reduced coordination.  Ammonia which is a common ingredients in window cleaners has been known to aggravate the eyes, skin and respiratory passages.

An alternative to using such chemicals is to use natural green products.  Natural green products are products that are environmentally friendly.  Such products include those that are biodegradable and those made from natural ingredients.  Such items include biodegradable trash bags and cleaning products made from natural ingredients.  An example of a green window cleaner is to combine vinegar and water.

These ingredients usually don’t have any damaging effects on individuals, except if someone has an allergy to a particular ingredient in the product. Individuals can use these products knowing they will not experience the side effects of chemicals in some of the non-green cleaning products.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in December 2, 1970 to consolidate into one agency, federal research, monitoring, standard setting and enforcement activities to ensure environmental protection. The EPS’s website has a list of the chemicals and toxins individuals should be aware of.  They also guide individuals to a greener environment by listing ways to greener living.

Using natural green products is a choice.  Once individuals understand the damaging effects of using everyday cleaning chemicals, the switch should not be difficult.  Also creating natural green products from everyday ingredients is easy.  Education about the harmful effects of chemicals in everyday cleaning products and the benefits of using natural green products go a long way to making and keeping us healthy.

The average person spends 90% of their day indoors, and this amount increases during the winter months. Paints, carpets, furniture, plastics, HVAC systems and cleaners all can all contain certain levels of toxicity often in the form of Volatile Organic Chemicals which can in turn increase indoor pollution levels to 5-10x that of outdoors. Cinderella Cleaners plan to implement green cleaning by using environmentally friendly products to clean homes and businesses. The products use natural ingredients in order to clean instead of traditional chemicals and fragrances. Also using energy efficient equipment and using transportation that's easy on earth.

Green cleaning processes can in turn reduce these adverse effects. These processes entail far more than just the use of green chemicals, but maintaining a clean and sustainable environment. Regular cleanings using these processes reduce germs , dust and exposure of toxins which are essential steps in reducing indoor air pollution. All- encompassing green services also provide a sense of well-being and purpose for the work environment.
