The importance of knowing about bloodborne pathogens.

01 May 2024 11:58 PM | Deleted user

Cleaning employees work in spaces that contain infectious materials, they need to know about bloodborne pathogens to protect themselves, their clients, and their families. Familiarizing themselves with precautions to be safe while they work and able to complete the tasks for the client's safety. Cleaning staff should have the precautions to identify when exactly an exposure may happen. Understanding the illnesses, and symptoms when dealing with bodily fluids is important to get proper health treatment and documentation.

Additionally, staff members need to learn the bloodborne pathogens standard to comply with OSHA and cooperate with employees of the business. The Standard is best for all stakeholders of the business. It is in the best interest of the business that the employees have the procedures to decontaminate their facility so that no one else gets harmed.

It is not only in healthcare that employees may be exposed. Any job that deals with trash, laundry, or bodily fluid may be exposed. Anybody and everybody can be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. The infection is caused by coming in contact with a person’s nose, mouth, hands, or cuts on the body. People in high-risk populations may be more vulnerable. It's important to have labeling and containers to properly dispose of material that has been contaminated.
