Bloodborne Pathogen training (BBP) is a critical training module for all contract cleaning companies with possible exposure to BBP.  It involves several phases:

    • Hazard identification
    • Training
    • Documentation
    • Post exposure followup

All contractors must identify possible exposures to BBP.  These can include, but are not limited to, trash handling, hazardous waste handling, and contact with bodily fluids.  As all firms will most likely have contact with any of these situations, the need for having a BBP plan is critical.  Failure to comply can result in employee illness and possible fines from OSHA.  Said training must be done upon an employee being hired and annually thereafter. Training is to be provided at no cost to the employee and during the employee's regular work hours.

All employees receiving the training must be offered the Hepatitis B vaccine at no cost to them.  The vaccine involves three vaccinations over a specific time period.

BBP training must be documented.  The employee can refuse the vaccinations.  All refusals must be declined in writing with a copy saved in a specific section of the employees file.

In case of an exposure incident, the specifics of the incident must be documented and recorded on the OSHA workplace injury and illness form. Documentation must also include the nature and cause of the exposure.  The employee is also offered follow up medical care, including prophylactic treatment, testing, and counseling.  Additionally, where the source of the exposure is identified, said source may be tested for infection.  Consent is necessary.

How to Know if a Vendor is Qualified to Decontaminate and Sanitize your Facility

Guests and employees alike need to know that you can protect them from the spread of the coronavirus. But how do you know if the measures you’re putting in place are enough? Hiring the right vendor is key. Three questions you must ask are:

    1. Is the vendor licensed, insured and experienced?
    2. Does the vendor understand and follow all CDC, OSHA and other jurisdictional requirements related to COVID-19 decontamination?
    3. And most importantly, does the vendor provide a documented protocol and a cleaning verification system?

Safe Kitchens CEO, John Spach explains that every organization should have a “defendable program” in place prior to opening its doors to employees and the public. This “defendable program” is a written protocol for contamination, developed using reputable information from the WHO, CDC and OSHA.

Our Cleaning Verification System has been designed to give you, your employees and the public, confidence in your facility. Through proactive documentation, we provide a program that’s not only reassuring but also defendable.

    Our Commitment to You

Our emergency commercial kitchen cleaning services goes well beyond a “deep-clean”. As the demand for safe and comprehensive virus prevention strategies grows, we continue to increase our commitment to the standards and best-practices of today. We aim to protect your business in a confidential manner and strive to keep your essential services operating.

We appreciate you and your clientele. We’re grateful for the opportunity we have to serve and we continue to express our concerns and care for the general well-being of your business, employees, customers and families. We want to help you rest easy knowing your facility is doing everything it can to stop the spread of COVID-19.

M&F Cleaning Solutions is a professional commercial cleaning company. Many of our commercial clients have carpet. Therefore, learning as much as possible about cleaning carpet can only help to improve our bottom line. The first step in implementing carpet cleaning into our program is to educate our employees.

Utilizing IJCSA as a way to educate our employees is amongst our first priorities as it relates to implementing carpet cleaning into our services. Beyond that, we will begin to physically train our employees on some of the methods we've learned through obtaining the course here. Carpet and rug cleaning is a good way to add additional value to our customers

Education is key to protect against bloodborne, viruses and bacterias, we must know how to handle potential hazardous materials & ensure that we are protecting our health and our employees health.

Everyone that is working in contact with not just the medical facilities but every industry should have an understanding of how to handle bloodborne pathogens to avoid getting infected and sick.

Today we live unprecedented times, Viruses, diseases and bacterias are always a real threat to ourselves, our love ones, neighbors, and communities. It is critical for professionals to understand how to protect themselves and others.

The short video allowed us to understand that it is clearly important to not only know how to wear protective equipment such as gloves and goggles. But also to know the importance of having a plan in place. A plan on how to act in a situation that can potentially put us in contact with body fluids or pathogens.

We must understand that in today's daily activities can  all be at risk, therefore we must understand not only that we must wear (PPe) but how to properly use it and dispose it after the use is completed. How to handle the waste and how to properly bag anything that contains contaminated trash. How to clean and sanitize is also key, as blood borne, body fluids, Viruses, Bacterias can live on surfaces and other materials.

The Video above spoke about blood borne pathogens such as HPV, HIV,AIDS Which clearly were the things people worried the most back when the video was created, However we cannot forget that in today's day it's not just limited to those viruses.

Today many live with the fear of a Novel Viruses such as Covid -19. Therefore Cleaning and personal hygiene must be essential. Sanitizing in our fields shouldn't just be a subject of one day, but an ongoing subject. Cleaning its not just limited to our clients and work places, Cleaning should be a lifestyle to maintain a healthy life every day. We must fight the threat by doing the following:

    * Educating ourselves and our employees.

    * Creating an action plan. (What to do plan)

    * Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    * Learning how to properly clean and sanitize.

    * Treating every situation as a potential risk.

    * Learning about which products to use and how to use them.

    * Learning how to properly dispose all infected materials.

    * Cleaning all equipment before and after using it.

    * Washing our hands after completing the work.

    * Supervisors and employees should have Records of potential threats.

It is imperative that cleaning employees and staff who are around or can come into contact with blood borne pathogens be fully trained to OSHA standards and are knowledgeable on bloodborne pathogens. This will better assist staff in knowing what bloodborne pathogens they may come into contact with, how to dispose of them and how to protect them selves in such environments. Knowledge of Bloodborne pathogens and how to dispose of them are vital for employee health and safety. Proper training is necessary to keep employees safe and train them how to properly remove, clean and disinfect against such pathogens

Having Safety and Exposure Control plans in place helps keep the employee and staff safe in the event of exposure and allows them to know proper procedures and guidelines to allow them to get the proper treatment they may need. Knowledge of proper exposure control is key to implementing and utilizing these plans in the work place and help make for a safer and healthier environment for all staff. Making sure all employees are informed of pathogens and properly vaccinated is key to protecting your employees health and safety.

As a professional cleaner you are exposed to many bloodborne pathogens in every day work. The risk is always great working in such environments that handle hazardous and infectious material. Proper training as mentioned above and having knowledgeable staff will help create a healthy and safe environment while maintaining reduced risk of exposure and proper disinfection and waste removal.

Just Clean Miami Inc. defines "green cleaning" as janitorial services that consider and protect the health of a location's residents without harming the environment. Green cleaning products and techniques avoid or entirely eliminate the use of chemically toxic products that can have adverse effects on individuals and the surroundings.

Why choose green cleaning?. Scientific studies have shown that chemical cleaning products can be harmful to the health of people and animals. Allergic reactions, eye and skin irritations and respiratory problems are frequently attributed to toxic cleaning products. In addition to negatively affecting the health of families, employees and pets, business productivity may also decrease over the long term when employees are consistently exposed to harsh chemical cleaning products

Opting for "green cleaning" has several advantages that prove to be less costly when compared to reduced efficiency in the workplace or increased medical expenses in the home. In addition, green cleaning may also help to reduce energy costs.
