Over 1000+ ABM cabin cleaning, janitorial workers getting laid off at Atlanta airport

The official notice states "This action is expected to be a permanent action for ABM, and we understand that DGS [Delta Global Services] will be assuming this contract effective April 12, 2019," according to Atlanta Business Chronicle.

1,121 Atlanta employees will be laid off this time around.

"Delta Air Lines is transitioning the cabin cleaning and janitorial services contract at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to another supplier, DGS, effective April 12," ABM spokesperson Jennifer Miller said in an email to Atlanta Business Chronicle...

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Cincinnati, names the Bengals, Hamilton County and Aramark Business Facilities, the company that provides janitorial services at the stadium.

Scott Poston, of Fort Thomas, attended the Oct. 14, 2018 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with his son. He says he's been a season ticket holder for more than 20 years.

Poston said he slipped when he was walking into the bathroom in Section 149.

According to the lawsuit, here’s what caused him to fall:

Someone vomited inside a stall, and stadium personnel tried to clean it up using a substance, called “D-Vour.”

A store manager who claimed that an on-the-job fall was to blame for spinal injuries necessitating surgery was paid a $1.5 million settlement on Jan. 7 in his Monmouth County suit against the company tasked with cleaning the store, Giannone v. Professional Janitorial Maid Services.

On the early morning of May 30, 2014, Frank Giannone, then 57, was at the Marshalls store on Central Avenue in Clark, opening up the store for employees to enter and begin working. As he walked from the front doors back to his office, he slipped and fell on a wet floor, he claimed in his suit, which named as a defendant Professional Janitorial Maid Services LLC of Eatontown, which provided cleaning services for the store.

As part of his scheme, and to ensure that his fraudulent invoices were accepted, Bleicher paid a contractor working in the facilities department of Company 1 who was responsible for the janitorial supplies.

Once that contractor left, Bleicher continued his fraudulent activity with the contractor’s replacement and rewarded him by buying him expensive dinners, taking him to professional sports games like the Philadelphia 76ers, and providing him with expensive wines.

Later, Bleicher recruited an employee of Company 1 and gave her the fraudulent invoices to submit for payment.

Bleicher admitted that he used the money he got from the scheme – $1,917,381,00 – on numerous personal expenditures, such as Rolex watches, two Rolls Royce automobiles, two Subaru automobiles, motorcycles, home renovations and college tuition for his children.

CNN - Chronic wasting disease has been detected in wild deer, elk or moose in 24 States, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warning hunters to avoid handling or eating potentially infected meat.

The disease affects the central nervous system and animals can show signs of drastic weight loss, lack of coordination and listlessness. It can make them more aggressive and less afraid of human contact, the center says.

It's in the same family of disease as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, which the CDC describes as "a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurodegenerative disorder."

In Tennessee, cases of CWD as of Jan. 2019 include: 

1. Fayette County
2. Hardeman County

In Virginia, the cases include: 

1. Frederick
2. Shenandoah

The center says scientists believe the contagious disease is passed between animals through bodily fluids.

A Palmer company is getting ready to ship out the first piece of machinery made under its multi-million-dollar contract for the Navy, using technology 15 years in the making.

The final product is called MCRRS, short for Mobile Cleaning Reclaim Recycle System. It's designed to clean flight decks on aircraft carriers.

Triverus CEO Hans Vogel is the man behind the idea.

"Sometimes people talk about us being like high-tech janitors, and that's kind of what we are," Vogel said.

The Navy needed a new method of keeping their flight decks clean and safe, according to Vogel. He wanted to create something that would prevent oil and fuel spills from slickening the deck as well as prevent particles or debris from being sucked into aircraft engines, all while keeping the environment safe.
