Communication is key to help run a tight ship when it comes to keeping the building or spaces clean.  This can be achieved through logs, work orders and special requests.  These professionals are responsible in lots of instances for opening up a building and so they are given special keys and codes for entry.  For the use of the building or space, this is essential to have a responsible do this.  But along with having keys and codes, the staff is also charged with making sure everything is in place before the business actually opens up.  These professionals must survey and serve the facility and grounds all through the day in certain cases where custodial staff is available and onsite during business hours.

Maintenance and cleanliness protocols achieved by janitors and janitorial allow those individuals utilizing the space to be comfortable and cared for when it comes to various functions.  Janitors are responsible for stocking bathroom supplies such as toilet tissue, hand soap, and toilet liners which are very necessary on a day to day basis.  Another area the janitors make our daily lives better would be in keeping the overall area clean as well as keeping the cafeteria or floor and lobby areas clean.  Special requests from the client which would be staff members or even children that use the space are also fulfilled by the janitorial staff on an immediate basis which also allow us to be able to function while utilizing the space.

It is extremely important for cleaning employees to be aware of the risk that comes from bloodborne pathogens. Cleaning staff could come into contact with many forms of bodily fluids that have the possibility of spreading disease. There is a possibility to infect themselves and many others by not properly handling situations where bloodborne pathogens could be a risk. Cleaning staff should always use universal precautions.

Even if a particular cleaning staff member would not usually be expected to come into contact with a bloodborne pathogen, they should have the proper training to be able to handle the situation and reduce the chances of anyone contracting a bloodborne pathogen whenever possible.

Bloodborne pathogens training can help employees to be aware of the risk and to use universal precautions by wearing proper PPE and following all established safety protocols. Without training employees may not be aware of the risks and that could lead to many people being at risk to be infected by a bloodborne pathogen that could have otherwise been avoided.

There is a lot of reasons why Educating the cleaning employees and staff about Bloodborne pathogens is so important.

First without knowledge the employees or staff wouldn’t know how to protect the patient, staff or themselves. And we all know keeping workplace safe, clean , organized and free of odor is one the goals of every single employer. All these cannot be possible without knowledge.

Second once the employees or staff know how The Bloodborne pathogens are transmitted and what to do to prevent them , it reduces the danger as employees can be held accountable if they’re not following the guidelines but without the knowledge everybody will be risk.

Lastly, our cleaning employees or staff are the first defense at workplace, and they cannot assume this person looks healthy therefore I would clean his/her bodily  fluids differently from that person who seems sick meaning they need to treat all bodily fluids as if they’re contaminated by applying universal precautions. And this wouldn’t be possible without having the knowledge of Bloodborne pathogens.

Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms that are in human blood and has the potential to cause various disease if exposed. These diseases may include HIV/AIDS, hepatitis b, hepatitis c, malaria, and syphilis. The CDC reported that approximately 5.6 million healthcare and janitorial service workers are at risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Therefore, we must maintain gaining knowledge of bloodborne pathogens.

It's important to have knowledge of bloodborne pathogens because when knowledge is applied correctly it reduces the potential of a threat. Continually educating yourself on OSHA guidelines keeps the employer and their employees safe, also eliminates exposure in the workplace. With the training and guidelines of OSHA, it teaches us that we should treat all bodily fluids as if they are contaminated since there is no way to differentiate between infected fluids and non-infected fluids.

In conclusion, educating ourselves about bloodborne pathogens should remain our priority. Annually educating ourselves and employees on the proper clean up of bodily fluids will continue to ensure workplace safety. Taking the initiative to meet OSHA guidelines will help you and others around you by limiting exposure.

We have all heard the term "Going Green" or being "Green Certified", but what does that really mean for the company and its employees?  There are many things that relate to being green.  Plastic usage, toxic chemicals for cleaning, the types of runners and rugs, even down to what types of rags we clean with.

Green programs allow for many improvements to your business which can include improved air quality with chemicals that are odorless and colorless as well as using HEPA Filter vacuums to capture more dust and debris.  Multi use rags, towels and glass bottles rather than single use ones allows for less wasted water are simple ways to effect the green quality of your company.  Lets not overlook the economic benefits when using Green products.  Many local, State and even federal credits are available when utilizing a green program.

Our staff as well as customers deserve a safe, clean and welcoming environment.  A green program helps achieve this.
