Why does it benefit me, an individual, or a business to be "Green Cleaning Certified"?

There are many reasons for wanting to be certified within the realm of green cleaning, but having peace of mind over product ingredients being safe and effective and environmentally friendly, promoting green cleaning amongst employees and within the community, and providing safe alternatives to service my client's homes, are some of the greatest reasons and benefits for wanting to have an official certification.

One of the absolute greatest benefits I see to having a green cleaning certification is the knowledge of what products or ingredients I am using within my business. I want to make sure that the products I use are safe, effective, eco-friendly and biodegradable. I have a big heart for the environment, and in return, I know that having an official green cleaning certification will allow me to feel accomplished that I am following the proper green cleaning guidelines and using the right products to keep myself, my clients, and the environment safe from harsh chemicals.

Having a green cleaning certification would also allow me to educate others and to influence those I work with the importance of green cleaning and the importance of using natural and safe cleaning alternatives. I strive to keep myself and those I work with safe, and having a green cleaning certification would only enhance my dedication to others to show them that I care about the environment and their safety. Having such a certification would also influence others, I would hope, to do their own research and to investigate using all natural cleaning products and to use guides such as IJCSA's Green Cleaning Directory to find green cleaning services that are properly certified within the green cleaning field. This by default, leads to a more knowledgable and well-rounded community that is safe and free from hazardous chemicals.

Knowing what chemicals I am bringing into not only my own home, but my client's homes, is another huge benefit to having a green cleaning certification. I can tell my client's with confidence that I know my information, and can tell them proudly, that I know how to look for and use green cleaning alternatives that have been proven safe and effective and can proudly advertise green cleaning products that have not been greenwashed.

Whether an individual or a business, being green cleaning certified is a huge step in providing others with the confidence that you have a good knowledge of chemicals, green cleaning products and procedures, and promotes and builds trust with that other individual.

It helps the environment, it helps reduce pollution in our waterways and into the air. They are less expensive. they have fewer antibacterials. Most green or environmentally friendly cleaning products do not contain antibacterial agents. You will have more knowledge of ingredients that are in the cleaners you use. So basically you can have a healthier home for workplace. A purer environment the use of safer products. Better air quality they are less expensive and have fewer antibacterials as I stated earlier.

It is very important that anyone who cleans a healthcare facility is doing it properly for many reasons. The main reason for doing a proper job however is simply to contain and prevent the spreading of any potentially infectious germs or viruses that may be present within the facility or room.

Knowing the reason however is just the first step, then it is just as important to take precautions to keep yourself & others protected. Using the proper PPE or Personal Protective Equipment (such as: Gloves, masks, & protective eyewear, etc.), is the best way we have for doing this. Using the proper PPE will not only protect you but also the patients, their visitors, co-workers & any other person you may come in contact with from being exposed to potentially harmful viruses, etc.

Another very important factor to remember when cleaning healthcare facilities is to implement the 3 rule method used for cleaning patient rooms which can also be used in other locations as well. The 3 rule method starts with: cleaning the area from top to bottom moving clockwise, then you should do dry procedures first(sweeping, garbage, etc.) & then of coarse clean anything that needs to be done wet, the 3rd rule is to clean using a consistent pattern like a back & forth motion or a side to side pattern.

The most important part when cleaning a healthcare facility starts with choosing the proper cleaning crew, find your certified service here: https://ijcsa.org/Janitorial-Service-Directory-Find-A-Janitorial-Service-JanitorialServices

We should always be looking for ways to make our business better than it was yesterday. The need for services is constantly changing but somethings will remain. Carpet cleaning is the next addition I plan to add too my business. Carpet cleaning is an excellent opportunity to upsell your residential and commercial clients. Carpet cleaning when done effectively can warrant life long customers.

I recently purchased a Bissell Big Green Commercial cleaner and have been taking courses and watching videos on how to effectively clean carpets. The training that I received here at IJCSA was so informative. I plan to educate both my staff and myself continuously on effective carpet cleaning methods and continue to strive for 100% customer satisfaction.

    Bloodborn Pathogen Protection

Bloodborn Pathogens are infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause diseases in humans. Limiting exposure to bloodborn pathogens with the proper personal protection equipment and practices is essential to the health and quality of life of yourself and your employees.
To protect yourself and your employees, always make sure you have taken the proper precautions to limit exposure such as wearing gloves, wearing safety glasses and masks. Make sure any cuts or openings in your skin aren’t open to come in contact with harmful bloodborn pathogens. Never reuse sponges or cloths that have been in contact with bloodborn pathogens. Make sure soiled laundry is handled with care, and placed in the proper color coordinated biohazard bag. Make sure gloves are disposed of in the biohazard bag. Never compact trash as it could contain needles or other materials contaminated with bodily fluid. Make sure to wash hands and sterilize all cleaning equipment after handling the cleanup of blood and other bodily fluids.
Should exposure to bloodborn pathogens occur, look to your company’s OSHA Exposure Control Plan. Make sure to contact your manager and physician.
Keeping yourself, and employees safe by limiting exposure and handling bloodborne pathogens with care is necessary for the health and well being of yourself and employees.
